Date-onomics: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game (Book)

Amazon page
basically this is a book that focuses on certain areas where women outnumber men and the social response (which is less commitment and more "hookup culture", due to the value of men and men's comprehension of their sexual value/status)
really good podcast discussion from the author on the Art of Manliness (Soundcloud Link)
i love reading the negative comments on Amazon b/c they almost all center around how this book is somehow anti-feminist
for example:
There is a very real possibility he is pulling all of this "information" out of his backside. I have seen this woman-shaming garbage over and over and over again. It keeps getting recycled every single time there is an economic downturn. It is pernicious filth trying to guilt women out of getting an education because no man will want them. It is garbage right out of the 1950s.
Though the book provides compelling evidence on the male shortage in relation to college campuses, religious sects and the workplace it's the kind of evidence that may reinforce the kind of preconceived notions among the people who'd be most likely to read this book.
You're likely to fall into two camps after reading the last page of this Jon Birger creation: either you will see this as a wake up call to women and their inevitable comeuppance for all their SJW, "feminazi" rhetoric of putting unassuming men in a corner in the name of smashing "the patriarchy," or you'll see this book as a veiled threat against women and their rise to power disguised as a cautionary tale of what happens when a woman's standards are simply "too high" (this book was written by a man after all).
and i'll give that 2nd comment credit for the 2-part distinction (even though there is some strawman in the post)
i actually think it's more the "cautionary tale" route but i doubt any legit feminist would desire to actually discuss that point
quote:
It’s not that he’s just not that into you—it’s that there aren’t enough of him. And the numbers prove it. Using a combination of demographics, statistics, game theory, and number-crunching, Date-onomics tells what every single, college-educated, heterosexual, looking-for-a-partner woman needs to know: The “man deficit” is real. It’s a fascinating, if sobering read, with two critical takeaways: One, it’s not you. Two, knowledge is power, so here’s what to do about it.

Women have no value after they turn 30. SJW that
Gotta laugh at a 35 year old woman being picky about men (and then complaining). I guess they didn't get the memo that a 35 year old man can easily date a 25 year old, hotter chick with a better attitude about life.

All those instagram models need to quit judging my weak insta game and replay back to my messages. I'm a 5 star man damnit! A five star man! They'll wish they had me when they're 30 and their looks start to go and their likes start to decrease! I'm a 5 star man!

I'm patiently waiting for your "Sexual Power in Utopia" thread.

Thank goodness I met my husband when I was 29, few more months and my stock would have plummeted.

that's subjective and pretty hard to quantify, esp on a mass scale. the point is that looks are even less important for men to have sex with women, as long as you're in the right setting (of which college is included). where men are going to need to be pretty is going to be places like Menver

I doubt I'll read the book, but I'll discuss with you.
I think there may be some merit to whatever the author says. But, each person, man and woman, has to decide what they want, what they are willing to compromise and what they are willing to forego for partner.
If you have diametrically opposing viewpoints, chances are you are not going to make it long with that person, regardless of how hot or rich they are.
Unless you are really really superficial, in which case none of this applies to you.

I feel like I deserve a girlfriend and to be in a relationship...but it's so much work to go fishing and keep up contact with everyone, that it's easier to not try and do what I want to do.
Is that weird?

quote:Yeah the 33 year old I was dating learned that the hard way after she started getting clingy and pushy about me spending more time with her and I started dating a 23 year old and an 18 year old college freshman. She lost her shite and I had to block her phone number.

We had a casual hookup thing going on and she insisted she was fine with that, but I guess she was lying.
edit: this is in NYC so finding new women to date is just absurdly easy. I'm an average dude.
