The cop never told him what he was arrested for. All you could hear in the video was that he asked him to roll the window all the way down and he wouldn't. So the cop went to the other door and began to try to pull him out. The guy asked him numerous times if he was under arrest and after about the eighth time the cop said yes then tazed his arse. What a dick.

Tazing someone for 23 seconds (count that in your head really quick) is ok?
is there a time limit to taze someone?

This will be an unpopular thought... but it was avoidable.
That being said, pretty sure this cop loses his job and wages from a law suit as he should. No need for that.

If you want to get your arse kicked by the cops you can usually get your wish if you're dumb enough.

per the article yes. he did it 4 times too long.

That makes me so angry. I hope that piece of shite pig experiences nothing but pain, misery, and loss for the rest of his life.

well since he was sentenced to 4 years in prison that's probably a good assumption.

he did say the cop got what he deserved.
i dont get why there is always a line drawn in the sand on this board. its either you gotta be 100% on the victims side or 100% on the cops side.
there is fault to go around in this story. the cop is in jail and deserves to be, but the kid could have handled the situation better.

Which brings up my theory about this place...either you're acting like a sociopath due to the enjoyment of the anonymity of this place, or the anonymity of this p[lace allows you're natural sociopathic tendencies to have an outlet you don't normally have irl. Honestly, for those that know you personally, I do truly hope it's the former, but fear it's likely the latter.

Again, Bryce refused. Runnels stepped back, stood straight, took a shooting position, and again grabbed his Taser from its holster. This time, he didn’t reconsider. “All right, fine, frick it,” he said, aiming the Taser at Bryce and pulling the trigger. The clicking sound of the Taser shock began, followed by pulsating ticks of electricity shooting through copper wires and into Bryce.
Runnels grabbed Bryce’s cellphone, throwing it in front of the car, demanding that he get on the ground. As if possessed, Bryce slowly got out of the car and lay down on the pavement at Runnels’s feet. The ticking sound of the Taser continued. Bryce let out a piercing scream. Runnels ignored it. “Told ya!” he said.
Until that point, the Masters had no idea how long Bryce had actually been tased. As Bryce lay prone in the street, Runnels continued to deploy the Taser. It was unbearable for Matt. He jumped up from his seat and yelled, “What the frick? Holy frick, let off the goddamn trigger!”
A full 23 seconds after Runnels pulled the trigger on the X26 Taser, he let it go and handcuffed Bryce. But Bryce wasn’t moving. Runnels told him to get up. Bryce didn’t budge. So Runnels grabbed him by the arms and pulled him, with the boy’s legs dragging on the ground between Runnels’ shuffling feet, toward the side of the road. Then Runnels released Bryce’s arms and allowed him to drop face first onto the street. A snapping thud filled the room — the sound of Bryce’s 175-pound frame hitting the pavement as his teeth crashed together and his jaw dislocated.
Bryce began to moan.“You don’t like to play by the rules, do you,” Runnels said. The Masters could see Bryce’s heart heaving up and down on the screen, an indication that he was going through cardiac arrest. Runnels seemed to ignore all this and, as the video shot by a neighbor makes clear, he put his right foot onto Bryce’s back. “Bryce, better sit up,” he said. “I don’t play games.”
Bryce didn’t respond.
“I’ve been tased a dozen times,” Runnels said to Bryce. “It doesn’t act like that.”
Another officer arrived on scene and Runnels explained that there was a warrant on Bryce’s plate — ostensibly the reason for the stop. The new officer referred to Bryce, lying there stationary. “Wake up, guy,” the officer said. Then, to Runnels: “He’s turning blue.”
The Dad is a cop...

And the Standford rape chick shouldn't have been drunk...right?
For frick's sake...why is it so god damned hard for people to simply admit when something is wrong? The kid did nothing wrong...the cop was rightfully arrested, lost his job AND is going to prison. That's where the commentary ought to end...why on earth does the victim here deserve any blame for a cop overstepping his authority by a mile and damn near killing him in the process?

Did I'd say how long his sentence is?
I think it said 4 years in Federal Prison. That's a pretty good stretch IMO. I think the 23 seconds of tasering is overboard, but I understand that the cops are taught that it's impossible to kill someone with it, so I don't think the cop was trying to kill the kid (or had any idea it could cause permanent injury). Dropping him on his face is totally uncalled for and probably one of the main reasons he got sent to prison.
The real reason he should spend some time in jail is that he apparently decided to arrest someone for no reason whatsoever, and then escalated it to violence and tasering of his own volition. Unfortunately this probably had no bearing on him going to prison.

Normally I would agree with you on this one. And, I guess given that we know there are cops like Runnels out there, you can even say the kid messed up.
But, in reality, the whole thing started because the cop demanded the kid roll his window all the way down. Yeah, the kid could have complied.
But, it would be nice if cops didn't just fricking make law up. It's one thing when they over react to a kid who is actually not following lawful directions.
But, there is no fricking reason to demand he roll the window all the way down AND...........for frick's sake, what is with cops refusing to answer the simply "why" question in so many of these videos?

Agreed...the kid's dad...a LEO himself, said as much. In fact, he didn't believe it until the doctor on staff proved it to him. However, the 23 seconds was beyond overboard as evidenced by the Dad's reaction...again, as a cop himself. That was done for one reason alone...because it hurts like a motherfricker and he was angry.

From the article, the kid had been arrested previously and the locals had behaved improperly...and the family (again a LEO family) had called them on their shite, which only pissed off the department and the kid began being targeted.

do you think it is likely that the kid still ends up tazed if he gets out of the car and has a conversation with the cop. again, i know he was in his rights to do what he did, but i still think he could have handled the situation better. not everything is so black and white to me, especially with the human element. ( i dont mean blame and responsibility here, that is fully on the cop, and hes going to prison) i think if the 18 year old gets out the vehicle and has a conversation, he doesnt get tazed, thats all.

As with any level of force, you deploy it to the point where the person is no longer able to pose a threat.
This guy never posed a threat to begin with.

ALL of them got exactly what they deserve. I realize this is difficult for some, but read the fricking article. This is one of the most cut and dried cases of police brutality, and covering their own asses you're ever likely to find. and, in this case, we're not even talking about a jump to conclusions based on a video with no context. This motherfricker was CONVICTED... And yet, as is typical for this cesspool of a board (that seems ok with this kind of stuff but will filter dirty words) even this isn't enough to simply call a spade a spade if it means saying something bad about a cop.
You have not read either of my posts. Yet you chose to single me out as a cop defender.
In both of them, I said the cop was the worst. Infinitely worse.
All I am saying is that you and every person like you who wants to "exert your constitution rights" when it has been proven time and time again that a ton of cops are immature and power hungry.....are just stupid.
It's like fighting a guy who insulted your girl when 10 of his buddies are with him and you are alone.
You deserve to get your butt beat.
