I think they are just trying to be careful at this point due to lack of information. Suspects are not talking. Not much to tell.

Update OP. Suspect did not kill himself. Dallas police chief just stated that a bomb was detonated by the police department which killed the suspect

Mayor is bragging about DPD's reputation right now. They're "best in class" he feels. They've done an outstanding job de-escalating this situation.
