I rode my bike to work today. I'll probably get passed by some a-hole going 45-50 on a 25 mph neighborhood street on my way home in a bit.

I guess I should start a thread about it.

I guess you couldn't comprehend what my point was...maybe your helmet is too tight?

He is saying if you can't do 45 on your bike, get off the road.
Can't really compare cycling speed to motor vehicle speed.

45 is the LIMIT. Not the minimum.

I KNOW that. I am not arguing against. It's the same ol bullshite from non-cyclists that expect you to do the limit if you want to ride on their roads.

I used to live in Louisiana. And rode/raced there quite a bit. Not sure how I survived.....

I live within a couple miles of there off Perkins and am always watching for bicycles because that area is full of them. There's a four way stop in my neighborhood that I regularly sit and wait for approaching bicycles to pass through so they don't t-bone me when I have the right of way.

Some nucklehead even made a homemade sign telling people to watch for bicycles at that intersection. I'm always floored at the mentality that it is unduly inconvenient for a cyclists to stop at a stop sign. It's kind of ridiculous to "share" the road with someone that stares you down as they blow through the four way stop on about 5 pounds of metal and a strip of rubber.

It pisses me off to no end when a cyclist chooses to ride the road and disrupt the flow of traffic rather than bike the sidewalk if there is one present.

BR is not cut out for cyclists. Never even had cyclists until a few years ago. Hope she's okay...no one deserves that.

Wrong. There has been cycling clubs, both touring and racing for years in BR. I rode and raced with them in the early 80s into the early 90s. Used to train/club race around the LSU lakes. That was a bit safer.

The problem now is (and I am an avid cyclist) a majority of cyclists feel entitled, and as one guy said, want you to share the road but dare you to make them toe the line.
I see the same attitude with cyclists pretty much wherever I ride. Not sure what the hell happened, the streets aren't any safer.

I really pissed off one biker who was doing that last year. Two lane road, so I get chance to pass and slow down to about 5mph making him go slow

It would be great to bike around Baton Rouge like you can in alot of other cities, and most areas north or essen are close enough to where you can bike to your destination. However, I realize that Baron Rouge is not a great city for doing that yet some bikers think they because they are on two wheels all cars must yield to them.

The only time I was hit by a car while riding was when a car ran a stop sign. Who knew both groups were capable of breaking laws and being assholes?

There are plenty of morons on bikes. I'm probably harder on them as a cyclist. But you can bike and be safe IF cars are also following the laws along with the cyclist. Sure there are places not worth riding, but if everyone followed the law it'd still be safe, but you obviously shouldn't since people obviously dont. Sound's like this girl was clearly in the wrong. No one deserves the result of being hit, I know from experience (I've been put in the hospital...not on a bike...not my fault).

But a lot of points against cyclists are bullshite. I guarantee you I see more cyclists per week than probably anyone on this board in Baton Rouge combined. I live on a pretty popular cycling route and I ride. I see some stupid shite sometimes and I'm not afraid to admit that. But for every cyclist doing something dumb, I see 10 cars doing something just as bad. The stop sign thing is overplayed. I'll admit that's the one law I break. Now by nreaking, I mean I slow down as much as possible without having to put a foot down (unless I have to yield then I'll fully stop). You know how many cars roll slowly through a stop sign without ever fully stopping.....pretty much all of them. And their roll is undoubtedly faster than mine. Again, I've been hit by a car so I play it safe. I'm not being risky by doing the slow roll at a 4 way stop with no other cars.

Like Salmon said earlier. There's an irrational hatred of cyclists. It stems from being annoyed by possibly getting held up behind one. Do they screw up sometimes....of course. Do they deserve criticism at those times.....yes. Do they do it enough to warrant the bullshite you fat frickers constantly spew.....hell no.
