re: PayPal, Venmo, money services Question

Update? Curious as to any more reasons the seller gave you for why they can't access the interwebs. Also I think we'd like to know if the seller has stolen your kidneys and/or money order.
re: Making my own cloud at home?
Posted by armytiger16 on 9/24/18 at 9:41 am to NOLAGT
Nextcloud is open source cloud platform you can setup for home use. If you have a domain or ddns and use let's encrypt https certs then you can point to it for remote https access. However, keeping it purely local has it's security benefits.
re: Cat 5e/modem question
Posted by armytiger16 on 9/23/18 at 8:26 pm to LSUTigerDoc
Remote access is a firewall / Port forwarding issue with your new modem. If the system works on the local network then the cable is fine. You have two options.
1. Take a peek at the side/bottom of your new modem and find the admin login and password and IP address of the admin page, probably 192.168.1.0 or something. Type that into your browser on the local network and Google your way into opening up some ports so you can get pipe into the feed.
2. Ask someone who knows what their doing to setup the camera so you don't break the internet or get your home network owned by some rando sniffing ports.
Good luck dude, I hope you get it fixed up.

You should probably pump the breaks on whatever shenanigans this guy is asking you to do. Sounds like a scam "limited access to computer" c'mon dude, it's 2018, if he's savvy enough to try and sell/buy something internationally on the internet do you really think he can't get access to the internet...
re: Setting up a router as a VPN tunnel. Need assistance.

Might have more luck finding out if your router is running openwrt firmware or something similar then reading about that.
You might want to be aware that Netflix and other streaming sites might not work on PIA. Netflix blocks vpn servers regularly so be prepared to play help desk if there's other members of your family on that network

If it's threatening you should report it to the police. What are are you planning to do if you figure out how to analyze the email header, subpoena the subscriber info?
re: A few Raspberry Pi/Retropie questions
Posted by armytiger16 on 9/4/18 at 1:04 pm to Dale Murphy
You can buy a power cable that has a switch. Amazon has them for around 5$. Depending on how comfortable you are playing with the terminal you can build some pretty easy script for a true shutdown procedure.
Here are a few projects I've done with pi
1. Open VPN server
2. Pihole -dns ad blocker
3. Next clound ubuntu server
4. Kali box
5. Exploit lab
Pi is an awesome learning tool because it's so simple. Screw around, break it, reflash and you're rolling in 10 minutes.

re: I’ve been wrong my entire life about how big a moose actually is

Forget the moose, I had no idea the average human height. So far the shortest OT member is 6'4"
We got 6'4", 6'5", and 6'8". Might want to make a basketball team.

Long/Short Google and Twitter are stopping downloading and using Gab. Not only are they hypocrites but are blocking any way of accessing Gab which is a free speech site.
Good grief, did you copy this verbatim from Hannity or Limbaugh? Have you ever been on gab? It's no more a free speech site than twitter, Fox news, or cnn. They are just are marketing towards a different demographic.
If you can't pull up gab or figure out how to download the app it doesn't mean the liberal conspiracy is stopping free speech. It just means you're not very good with technology, without the assistance of Google or twitter.

Speaking of this. I've never gotten one notice from att, I get a vpn two weeks ago and just got one yesterday.
I use vpn for privacy and security and don’t research the best way to pirate. However, the basic principles are probably the same so take it for what it’s worth.
1. Are you using free or paid vpn. Free is more likely to sell or provide your data.
2. Is your vpn any good?
3. Do you have webRTC disabled
4. Do you have dns leak protection (eg is your dns leaking)
5. Do you have a vpn kill switch (does your vpn disconnect and leave you still connected in the clear.
6. Do you have a separate “clean” browser that you use when trying to preserve anonymity (no gmail signed in, extensions, etc)
If you can’t answer these questions then you’ll need to do a bit of research before you try and use a vpn for anything more than basic encryption.
Also, stop stealing a-hole.

You probably complain about crime or lambast foreign policy of the United States on Iran but have no interest in taking an oath and serving the republic. To quote on of my favorite books Starship Troopers
If you dislike the way things are done then take part in the process. I'd guess your primary interest is
Making money and furthering your lifestyle.
quote:
Tell me the moral difference, if any, between the citizen and the civilian?. A soldier accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body politic of which he is a member, defending it, if need be, with his life. The civilian does not."

Ok, so we are agreed that there's, and I contend a minority, that are douchebags, do you want to do away with law enforcement because there might be bad officers? You will still call the cops at when it suits your needs.
My point is that society needs law enforcement is integral to providing the safety and security you want and need in your life.

I agree with you, but why should a cop have to work 60 hours a week so he can buy a boat and ATV? If he decides to get married she will have to work too. Children need things, and college funds.
I'm not disagreeing with you. I think higher base pay based on good measures for successful performance would improve the caliber of the police force. I've worked military and law enforcement and can tell you the motivation has always been based on interest and contributing to society. I just dislike the whole dichotomy of hero or total goon label that is applied to both.

I think most people have a myopic view of what police actually do. The average person only interacts with police during a negative encounter such as speeding tickets or dui. The reality is that there are a wide variety of jobs that police perform and the majority revolve around non punitive actions to anyone not committing felonies and promote order in civil society.
Sure there are knuckleheads in the police force with complexes but I would wager the majority are probably looking to provide for their families and do an interesting job that can contribute to society.
I don't think someone's a hero because they punch a clock wearing a badge but I also don't think they don't sit around hoping to stick a fine on regular citizens for no reason.
:dunno:

What do you suggest the police do? Someone from out of state called and said they have a bullet hole in their car that may have been fired somewhere in New Orleans while they were driving. They also left their car unattended for who knows how long while on vacation so that sure doesn't help narrow things down. :dunno:
The occupants of the car couldn't be troubled to make a police report by stopping or using a phone somewhere but they think the police should treat it like priority one.

The average police officer/sheriff deputy/state trooper is probably around the 30 percentile. The vast majority of all LE is below the overall average. It is a major problem, but everyone is too sensitive and immature to discuss that fact. Over half of all LE are former military. How many intelligent people go into the military? Not many. The vast majority of all military people enter the military bc they aren't smart enough to have other options. That might sound harsh, but it's just a fact.
