Boats in trees in Venice. Buras water tower on the ground. Huge holes in the levee down there
Those pics of Buras that were posted on here tore me up. So many memories just gone, can't imagine how you guys who lived down there dealt with losing the entire town. It's hard to go down there when I go visit family, don't make the trip that far down very often.

Anybody remember that high ranking NOPD guy that committed suicide shortly after Katrina if I recall?

Because when society has a little hitch, people lose their GD minds and it’s a free for all.

Paul Accardo. He was the guy who would always talk to television media at the scene of crimes.

Came down from Atlanta when they let everyone back to help family. Ate supper one night in Bucktown, got back on Robert E Lee headed back towards UNo where aunts house was. No lights, no traffic. Eeriest feeling like you just didn’t belong there. Got out without incident, never stayed after curfew again.

Down in Da Parish, one of my BIL's had worked for the water board and was told he had to stay. He stayed down there for 17 days after the storm till he got sick as a dog. One week later, he retired and had enough after going out in boats, picking up bodies.
Oh, just got to thinking about all the marsh grass hanging up in power lines 20-25' up. Water levels hit that high down the road.

Breach of Faith
The Great Deluge
The Storm
4th and New Orleans is about the 2005 Tulane football team/season. Not directly about the storm but interesting nonetheless.

Yeah but you take $20k from an atm after something like a hurricane and the systems aren't down for that long. I mean I'd think they'd come looking for you a couple weeks later. Katrina is pretty rare and a large city.
Katrina was a unique event, more than 60% of the networks and systems providing, telephone, cellular, and internet service, were still down a month after the storm hit. Telephone system switches, and cell sites had backup generators, but only had fuel supplies designed to last a few days. When they were designed it was thought that most emergency situations could be resolved in a few days. After a few days they started to go down as the backup generators ran out of fuel, and for most there was no way to get additional fuel to the site. Bellsouth/ATT and other providers eventually organized a plan to get fuel to the sites and restore operation, but it was hit and miss for a long time. Sat phone usage surged 3000% in the area as workers like myself showed up with their phones, that system was quickly overloaded making calls difficult.

At the peak, we had 20 family members and friends camped out at our house. Some a few days, others 3+ weeks. It was an interesting time.
Traffic, helicopters non-stop. Gang violence rumors. Gas lines and all the rest.
A few months afterwards, I had a meeting at the MSY Airport Hilton and picked up this interesting brochure. Never did make a tour. Never saw the brochure again.

It was called Memorial then. But yes that's the one.
This always pisses me off when the baws complain about Nola asking for help. You have a damn hospital with critical people there and it's cut off from the normal world. Within a day, the military should have been there getting people from there and other hospitals and nursing homes out.
Screw the politics of it all.

Thats the one. Did anything ever come out as to why, or was it a result of some sort of PTSD?

I heard from an old retired Ranger that the raping was mainly in the CC. He said the groups would grab a girl and that if anyone tried to help, their women were next. He also said his elderly dad told him there was a SEAL team in mid city, eliminating bad guys.
Not saying any is true, but the CC part was told to him by attendees.

I heard a family on the Lakefront hired private security, which turned out to be members of the Italian military to protect their home from looters.
Blackwater was brought in for Audubon Place as well. I remember riding past and seeing the force at the gate maybe 5-7 days after the storm and all of the yards were manicured and the street was clean. Money doesn’t worry too much about a storm.

C230 about 25ft up in a tree in Indian Village in Slidell. Didn't even see it the first time I passed by
