The only reason I care about this at all is because the federal government charges me tax on the income I make

Switch to sales tax or flat tax, stop taking my money and giving it to other people, stop charging me to save for my own retirement, and I couldnt care less if these people are legal or not

know plenty of people who would go do this for extra money on the weekends. Sounds like the plant owners want their cake and eat it too.

It’s a 6-7day a week job - sometimes they run 2 10 hour shifts
It’s not some weekend side job

There’s an actual crawfish farmer in the thread. It’s three times minimum wage. That’s 22.50 an hour. Do you know how much money that is in Mexico? This seasonal work is godsend for their families. And yes taxes are are taken out. It’s astonishing the ignorance when it comes to this subject.

Based on prices of the past, they’ll still bathe in money during the offseason.

But, I thought Americans would do this jobs?

You're seeing the free market at work. They will do them it's just that these guys haven't yet created found the wage to incentivize it.

Also, I love it how it references the visas when we all know that they were using all illegals.

It’s not cheap labor - multiple people have told you this in this thread
A 10sec google search would also provide documentation

So the farmers should double the peeler wages and/or take a hit on profits? Or what? Americans will lose their Benefits if they work. And with wages barely higher than benefits it’s not rocket science. They take the front porch.

No they weren’t
Why don’t you call ice on the 3 peeling plants that have their workers and see how many get deported

You can literally look up on govt websites and see the visas for these businesses in past years

Well, genius, if you can come down off your virtue signaling pedestal long enough, you can answer the question.

So, who did this job before they were able to get cheap (okay, now it's expensive) slave labor?

None of you "experts" can seem to answer one simple question.

They used to. In the early 90s they were paying $1 a lb. I know because my buddy's family owned a processing plant.

Well the demand for tailmeat is way higher than it used to be

Female family members of basin crawfishermen who barely exist today or local Vietnamese ladies who families worked in seafood businesses

Who used to do landscaping work or clean hotel rooms? Those jobs are full of H2Bs

I’m as pro ICE and pro hate progressives as any person on this site. It’s simple, the citizens won’t do the work. We want our crawfish and any other commodities, the legal workers provide that.

We have been told they pay $22.50 per hour.

How many pounds could an experienced peeler do per hour?

10? 20? 40? 60?
