I remember when crawfish boils were about family and friends gathering for some good cajun food and some beers.

Now crawfish boils are just a way of showing off how rich you are. I think the kids today call it a "flex"..

I miss crawfish boils.

This right here will be the dumbest post in this thread.

Climate theologists are not going to be happy with that.

How young are you?

When I was in HS, when the season started in December, live crawfish were about $1/lb....Yeh, ONE FREAKIN' DOLLAR, BOB!

By about start of March, we were looking at $0.40/lb....Yes, they would jump up to about $0.50/lb at Easter and then after that, you could get a sack for about 10 bucks.

I remember in college getting friends together, everyone chipping in $20, and with a couple hundred dollars we would get several sacks of crawfish and even a couple kegs to go with them.

We didn't know how good we had it.

when I was at LSU crawfish weren't popular, or even known, much outside of south La, and particularly sw La, so crawfish were cheap and plentiful, I think the Nola World's Fair got everyone outside of La on the Cajun food band wagon, good for the industry but changed the market forever in La

Can confirm he either farms crawfish or is a politician.

Definitely wants to say it seems…….. but can’t

Same.

Last year, if you boiled 2 sacks with all the sides you were looking at north of $400.

The good news is that crawfish boils will be illegal next year due to the burners causing climate change

I live if in the DFW area and we boil quite a bit, the high prices around here only lasted for a week or two and then came back to normal for the rest of the season, I don't we ever came close to that, except maybe for the adult beverages

We never really got under $2.99 in Nola last year and the place I use sells 38-45lb sacks. So, it was $250ish just for the crawfish. Then you throw in propane, veggies, seasoning, beer, etc., you could run up a bill quickly.

Not here in Houston area - prices stayed high the entire season. This was the first year I didn’t touch em or even have a desire to spend the money on a boil. Kids were asking why, but it just wasn’t worth the price.

Consumption in Texas will keep prices up. Days of .99 crawfish are gone forever.

This is truer now than ever. When we moved here, there was a festival every now and then, but I had to drive and search to find live ones to boil. Now there are entire Facebook groups dedicated to crawfish and food trucks popping up on every corner. It’s kind of ridiculous how crazed this area has gotten.

the place where we get ours might start out at $4.99(they get them from Louisiana,) and then go to $3.99 for most of the season and end up at $2.99, their sacks are usually in the mid-thirty lb. range but will break a sack if you ask them too, I rarely do that because we like some extra to peel to have the tails for other cooking, they've been pretty steady with pricing for several years and get really nice crawfish, I don't mind splurging a little on family and friends

Plot twist - this cold front is either too cold or not cold enough and will stunt something causing a massive price increase come May

Same. We boiled every weekend from February to mid-May. I did nothing to "stick it to the farmers."
