are in our early 60s with emphysema. Otherwise healthy.
I’m just not sure how you can so casually list emphysema as if that’s just a minor condition, especially when it relates to protection from a respiratory virus.

I mean it’s one thing to have something extremely common and not extremely problematic like a little hypertension, which is often one of those preexisting conditions that people erroneously use as evidence the virus isn’t a big deal. It’s another to have a condition that is actually associated with a much higher risk of severe outcomes as it directly affects systems that the virus attacks.

In other words, between your age and your specific pre-existing condition, you are probably the type of person that is at much higher risk and should get the vaccine before most people.

We are probably going to take it if our PCP says so. Might as well. We will all get exposed at some point. Rather take my chance at shot than catching it. Thanks for your input.

I’d take it man. You’re at a higher risk than most for getting really sick from Covid. I’d advise you to take the pneumonia vaccine per guidelines and flu shots every year as well. Fwiw, I took the Pfizer Covid vaccine 2 weeks ago and had no adverse reaction to it.

You really should find some doctors who didn't go to medical school in Ghana.

I probably should take a pneumonia shot at the least. Seems thats what kills a lot of folks with this.

That’s not really how that works.

If I were offered the vaccine and it were in ample supply, I’d take it.

I have not heard from any doctor who is not taking the vaccine, just a couple of dumb nurses.

I’m about the same age as you and have a condition that makes me considered high risk as well. I’m taking it as soon as I can get my hands on a dose. Honestly, I’m courious as to why you and your wife wouldn’t do the same?

I don’t treat adults but I’d argue the emphysema puts you at higher risk. Get the vaccine if offered.

Edit: I got the vaccine a week ago and other than injection site pain and mild headache the next day, no other symptoms.

Stop smoking. If you can’t take that step for your health then no vaccine or medicine is going to save you. Take responsibility for your own well being and don’t rely on the practice of medicine to save you from your poor choices. Not being an a-hole just trying to give you the respect of honesty.

No, they don't.

We had dinner for a few friends last Saturday and their were 4 doctors there:

My wife (CT Surgeon)
An OBGYN
A Pulmonologist
A Cardiologist

Every one of them had gotten the vaccine earlier in the week and every doctor in all their groups had gotten it except one in the OBGYN group who called in to say he had an appointment and would get it later, the doctor wasn't sure if it was true or if he was waffling on taking it.

I have no idea how bad your COPD is but you are certainly part of the group of people that should be seriously considering it by that I mean getting it ASAP.

Were they offering to give you the shot that day?

If you want to fly and travel to other countries (possibly domestic flights too), I suspect you'll have to take it.
