Absolutely Horrific. Alcohol has ruined so many lives.

There are two ways to walk to Brightside from Tigerland. Walk down Alvin Dark and get murdered or walk down Nicholson and get hit by a car. Nice place

I swear, the people who run our public works departments have no clue who actually lives in this city and how people use our infrastructure.

The majority on this website complain about pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. They don't normally care a sidewalk is blocked as long as it doesn't interfere with driving their pickup truck down the road.

Around here and in Lafayette I can give a dozen examples. Apartment construction blocking sidewalks, cops parking their speed limit trailers on sidewalks, etc.

Although this is the prevailing view on TD… this isn’t really a thing… and when it is it doesn’t involve LSU students

Yup. Girl being intoxicated had nothing to do with this.

Tragic as this is…reports are saying that the 19 year old driver pulled over immediately, called emergency services, was not impaired, and was not arrested.

I’m sorry for your loss OP, but are you sure on the facts about what happened?

Yeah. That’s really an obstacle. Gotta walk in the street to get around that.

Where did you get this information?
quote:

**Update : 19 year old drunk girl was caught for the vehicular homicide. She drove a mile down the road, called the cops and said someone hit her. She apparently drove through a bunch of barricades and struck my friend first, then ran over his gf.

And this?

quote:

My friend jumped in front of his gf to save her, so he died a hero.

More than likely victims were walking in the street

Yes I did. The post was vague on details. Did she drive through barricades?

Sorry for your loss OP.

quote:

ALPR/Flock camera system but it's working overtime on this case and will find the hit & run douchebag

"It" isn't doing shite but recording my plate 8 times when I pick up lunch 1.7 miles from my house. Vehicles being stolen, tens of thousands of $ in parts being stripped, homes broken into, and yet ALPRs are never mentioned in the rare case that anything actually comes from reporting the crime.

Cameras and the Bluetooth tracking they do are detective controls, and weak ones at that. They do jack and shite to prevent tragedies, thefts, etc.

There are 60 million dash cams in use in the USA, but asking for footage from them after incidents would require that inconvenient step of ... asking for the footage... from people driving on the road at the time, or businesses watching the girl allegedly stumble to her car, etc.

Or there is this:
quote:

The individuals were jaywalking in the 5000 block of Nicholson Drive near Tigerland when they were struck by a car around 2:40 a.m., police said
...
The driver who hit the individuals stopped and contacted police.

But surveillance fixes all. Disco Ball, you might prefer to live in London or Paris, where the ubiquitous cameras have prevented or stopped all manner of looting and rioting. Oh wait.

They're not cameras... just plate readers and in this rare situation they weren't needed as the driver stopped and called the authorities.
Had she ran...they would have entered the equation and helped identify the vehicle and possibly the driver.
