Terrible loss of life - I cannot imagine the pain of the parents. I hope and pray they are able to find themselves in time.

If anything positive comes out of this, they should sue the parish and public works for enormous amounts, with a focus/remedy on improving this area. Reading the August WBRZ article about the opposition to the "timing" of the construction does not look good at all.

Prayers to the family and those who knew these two beautiful people.

LA 30 is a state road and Jeff Landry needs to make the improvements.

Not all of 30 is.

For the record, the work they are doing right now along this stretch includes pedestrian safety features like enhanced lighting & sidewalks in addition to widening the roadway. They are relocating utilities and actual construction is probably a year away, if I had to guess. It’s a MOVEBR project, being done by the Parish.

I know the guy's family. Top notch people, truly dedicated to faith and family, this is gutting to know how strong this family is, truly awful that this has happened. Thoughts and prayers don't even begin to describe what's needed for them.

Fred Raiford needs to be forced into retirement

Agreed. He's been at the trough too long to be effective. BR's traffic is fricking garbage and that's the guy who's been at the helm, steering this pirate ship into a sea of traffic infinium. Before that, he was at DPW and has worked in city government for half a century.

A dinosaur who's been a city employee his whole life. Time to go, Fred.

Maybe you should take your own advice before posting something so stupid.

I would love to know how many people have been killed-through the years-say since 1990-along Nicholson from where Burbank intersects and Brightside intersects. RIP.

LSU is going to have to build a pedestrian bridge over hwy 30 and the train tracks when the new Basketball Arena is built. I don’t know why they haven’t built one by the stadium yet. Maybe there’s some restrictions on state highways??

They could build a sidewalk on LSU property all the way to Fred’s
