I could get the plane back down to the land.

I'm pretty pro level at docking a boat. Gotta transfer to landing a plane pretty well, right????

if aided over the radio yes. with no outside help i doubt it would be a smooth landing

Land?

Sure.

Walk away from said landing?

Possibly.

A deep understanding of the theory how and why they stay in the air as well as the important control surfaces, add in over a decade worth of flight simulators... I'd say 65-70% of not killing everyone on board.... I'd add another 10% of success if being talked down over the radio.

That was a myth busters episode. They had used the simulators that pilots train in and a real ATC guy guide them in. Those ATC guys looked nervous as hell. Like a pride thing for them that they could get them in.

They succeeded. I think one guy had a poor but survivable landing and the other was fine. IIRC.

Without any reservation or doubt, I can confidently state that I could take us all the way to the scene of the crash.

Some of the newer private planes being manufactured have a big red “push in case pilot dies” button that will land the plane at the nearest airport.

yep

Buddy of mine who was a private government pilot has a simulator cockpit built to control an RC plane in first person view.

I can land anything they fly with that.

He says it's good enough for a SHTF scenario.

No idea

Most confident I can be with an answer is…..maybe? If movies are accurate these planes have multiple levels of sensors/ warnings that tells you if you approaching too fast, too slow, pitch of the nose of the plane among other things. If I had someone on the radio coaching me, maybe if given no choice. Even with that I know the odds would low. My best hope would be a controlled crash

nope, not saying it can't be done but there's no correlation/transfer of skill in "flying" an RC to flying an airplane

Problem they found out with red button is that when women see the red button they panic and try to take control over the computer which inevitably causes a crash. See the challenger explosion as a good example. Dick Scobee hit the red button and Christie McAuliffe panicked and the plane shuttle exploded.

Even when it's just cesna 172 controls?

Like I said, no idea. It isn't my hobby. I just got asked to sit in one to demonstrate that it wasnt possible to fly an RC plane just because you grew up playing video games as a kid.

Instead of crashing, I was carrier landing everything trying not to break people's toys
