So you have to suffer with a toothache or pain in your back or whatever and destroy your liver and kidneys swallowing ibuprofen and tylenol by the handfuls as opposed to the old way where they actually prescribe you something

“The old way” - Are you talking 1999-2018 old way or pre-1999 old way?

Growing up we didn’t get opioids for tooth aches and every other minor ailment. That shite started after ‘96 when Purdue pushed the lie that Oxy was safe to treat every type of pain including non-cancer chronic pain and pain associated with minor procedures.

I have an unrealistic conspiracy theory that the US Government, in their last ditch effort for their War on Drugs is to flood the illicit drug market with Fentanyl so that it 1- kills off all the drug users and 2- scares people from trying / using drugs any further.

users found out that a dealer had someone OD then they would flock to that dealer because he had the good stuff

Or were they hoping that he would provide them with the easy path to make the pain stop permanently?

I posted about this before. It actually scared my sibling to get clean. They were scared they were going to OD every time they used.

The cynic in me just thinks this is big pharma trying to scare people into only doing their drugs. Folks will stick to benzos for their "anxiety."

There is alcohol readily available and doesn't need prescription. In Louisiana it's practically shoved down your throat from the teen years. And people become alcoholics. So what do we do? Stop selling alcohol or limit it severely? No. So I don't think we should make prescription drugs the boogey man either. Just because some people abuse them you don't punish the whole population.

I agree with you, I was just responding to the poster who was suggesting we just eat Rx meds like candy.

Maybe I know someone who does these drugs but if so, it would be news to me.

I've never known anyone who OD'd or did heroin to my knowledge.

I take that back, maybe some trash from HS did it but no one I actually interact with.

I tried to lay the sarcasm on as thick as I could. Maybe if you weren’t stoned all the time your cognitive ability would improve and you’d be able to recognize it as sarcasm.

i know roughly 10 people from high school who either died or got busted by the police and blasted all over the news... all of them are/were pure white trash and most were doing hard drugs during high school

Hyuascha is a gate way drug?

Cigarettes are the biggest gateway drug. Exposes people to physical addition. See the poster a couple of days ago who got hooked on nicorete gum.

Doubtful. Most folks are introduced to drugs by their parents who consume some alcohol from time to time. Not too long ago it may have been tobacco but smokers are not as prevalent as they once were...but folks still drink a lot of alcohol. It'd be a rare individual indeed whose first experiment with a drug did so with something other than a beer. Alcohol is the real gateway drug. Tobacco may have been up until the 90s or so and probably still is for many but not as many as beer. I suspect that most people dying from fentanyl came to the drug via prescription pain killers. I doubt may first time drug users go straight to anything which could have fentanyl in it....

Miller Lite is a drug and the drug it contains has killed more people and caused more misery than all of the "drugs" people think of as drugs combined. Tobacco would be second on that list.

teen drug use has been declining for a long time now tho

It has, but drug use amongst 25-45 year olds is booming. Folks in that age group are consuming alcohol is numbers similar to that of 35-55 year olds in the 1950s when all pop culture centered around drinking alcohol. Teens are staying away until after college and then developing strong drinking habits....
