I certainly hope so. I have one kid in college and one about to be a senior in HS. We've tried to stress the dangers of unknown pills and powder to them heavily. Hopefully they just stick to alcohol and studying.

I watched a documentary where when users found out that a dealer had someone OD then they would flock to that dealer because he had the good stuff. So the answer is probably no.

There is tons of evidence out there that prescription meds, specifically pain killers are the reason why you have hard core heroin/opiate addicts.

That’s just anecdotal stories fabricated by the extremely powerful marijuana lobby that’s trying to exploit you for a profit.

I have been a sarcastic arse in this thread, but if this story is true I’m actually very sad about where this country may be heading.

I really wish we could come together and figure out a way to actually address this issue and help young kids and young adults not fall into this trap.

The pain killer epidemic was absolutely fricking criminal and pharmaceutical execs should have gone to jail for it

If people keep dying at this current pace, could the Fentanyl issue have the un-intended consequence of reducing the number of people who ever start doing drugs in the first place?
As the message gets out that you could die from your first hit, will it stop some people?

No because as bad as Fentanyl actually is, the 1980s "Just Say No to Drugs" bullshite had kids absolutely terrified of cocaine, particularly crack.
Every week in elementary and middle school there was some DARE or Just Say No assembly or some campaign to keep kids off drugs. We wore Red on Fridays to JUST SAY NO to drugs.
The countless Afternoon Specials and advertisements like this didn't even stop us..

I don't understand how anyone does crack or meth or heroin the first time. I like getting fricked up as much as the next guy, but have you ever heard a single story involving any of those three thats good. Most are I got arrested or I lost everything, or I was lying unconscious in a pool of my own filth, or I was at a bus station looking for a score on a business trip at 4:30 am.

A huge portion of the heroin usage starts out as “I got hurt, was prescribed pain killers, and then they cut me off cold Turkey and I still have pain” so they find something else to take the pain away and heroin is really damn good at it.

I don't know about first time but I can tell you me personally I've certainly done blow for the last time. Even into my 30s I was still very much down to partake whenever wherever if offered but with all the fentanyl shite going on these days there is NO WAY i would trust anything out there. Keeling over dead and leaving a family behind because I wanted to do a bump seems like an utterly shitty way to go out.

Did you do bumps at parties with a family and kids even before the fentanyl issue?

The problem I have with this concept though is that because of what you said, doctors are now scared to fricking death to prescribe pain killers for a patient when he/she genuinely needs it. So you have to suffer with a toothache or pain in your back or whatever and destroy your liver and kidneys swallowing ibuprofen and tylenol by the handfuls as opposed to the old way where they actually prescribe you something and enough of it to make it through the tough spot. This has happened to me several times over the last ten years and it SUCKS.

There is alcohol readily available and doesn't need prescription. In Louisiana it's practically shoved down your throat from the teen years. And people become alcoholics. So what do we do? Stop selling alcohol or limit it severely? No. So I don't think we should make prescription drugs the boogey man either. Just because some people abuse them you don't punish the whole population.

Possibly. It can certainly keep them from trying drugs the 2nd time.

Wish I had more upvotes.

Haven't thought about like that, but for me, yes. I'm scared of taking anything I'm not 100% sure of. Now a 17yo me probably wouldn't give a shite.

after marriage, yeah. My little secret.

After kid, definitely not. Mostly because of just growing up but that's only been a few years which has coincided wiht the proliferation of all the fentanyl stuff

meth i don't really know. I am not old enough to be around when it was a party drug. It has always been redneck trash and now schizo homeless trash that do it. It is easy to get and cheap. Bored and broke people still like to get fricked up

heroin is the cheaper and more effective Oxycontin. It is pretty easy to see how one can go from casually taking a few pain killers to a year or so later shooting up. Lost a close friend to this path.

Crack: I don't have first-hand knowledge. just what have heard thru the grapevine or read in crime books. Apparently, crack rules. Multiple people I know that went to rehab have told me the crack addicts at rehab make the drug sound amazing.
