If someone gets a 1st time DWI, there's pretty standard rules set in laws that if it's between x BAC and y BAC, the punishment is this, or a bar fight simply battery, it's x and y. I don't see why lawyers are needed for these types of cases. Seems people hire a lawyer because that's the status quo, out of fear. The individual can look up their charge in their state and read the 2 paragraphs that discusses what their charge is. Saves you a couple thousand in these lower cases.

If the cases are open and shut, like you blew in a breathalyzer or cop saw the action you did, and there's really no getting around the charge, is what I'm speaking of, and you could fight yourself for a lower charge or not full sentence, etc.

To me that sounds familiar to insurance through an All State insurance rep. You don't need them at all. Just get on their website and see what you need then select the coverage you want for auto or house.

For things like murder, obviously one would want a lawyer.

Well yes, if you’re not going to fight it or deny it at all, you don’t need a lawyer.

Not everyone is blessed with your overwhelming intellect.

I doubt you need an advisor in any facet of life. You've got it all sorted out.

If you’re just going to plead guilty and throw yourself on the mercy of the judge as far as sentencing, which is what you just described, sure you don’t need a lawyer.

If you want to fight it or lower your sentence in any way, be it through trying to get evidence tossed or having a relationship with the DA’s office or know what mitigating factors a certain judge takes into account to give a lower sentence or knowing what facts may lead to you not being a guilty (I.e was it actually a battery or self-defense), most people would be much better off with a lawyer.

By all means, face a felony without counsel. See how that works out.

Some. Yes. It's called probate for example when a will is involved.

But MOST legal cases, no.

probly not - because people that frick up do not have the ability to accept the consequences for their actions.

people automatically believe they are untouchable and right all of the time - society has fed this narrative.

until people are able to accept their mistake and accept the consequences of the decision, then no

Many times in standard cases, a lawyer isn't going to make that much of a difference. I tell people who hire me for these cases just this. Sometimes they just want to make sure there aren't any angles. Sometimes they want to go to trial.

Criminal law is easy stuff, though.

Family law is easy stuff, too.

Try complex litigation or super specialized fields and most lawyers can't even do those.

It's different in each state as far as DWI 1 goes. I know where I am (Fort Smith) if you blow under 0.16 it's pretty cut and dry what you're going to get, no real need for an attorney. At 0.16 or higher you'll probably need an attorney because of the jail time, which may be only 2 days but it's often times 14-30 days. A decent attorney can keep that to 2 days pretty easily, but on your own you'll probably get hung by the ADA.

The legal system has become so overly convoluted that you should always have a lawyer.

It is job security for lawyers.

Probably... if there wasn't a lawyer or the government on the other side.

There’s an entire industry built around

One can advocate for himself. Just because you don't have lawyer doesn't mean you don't fight to decrease whatever sentence.

This is true, but you better be decent at legal research and procedure.

It’s the same with dentists. If it’s just a simple cavity, I have a dremel tool and JB Weld that patches the kids right up. Now if it’s a root canal or something more complex, we’ll consult YouTube experts.

A good lawyer will tell you no.
