You can definitely buy a McMansion in Prairieville for that.

Would it be a stretch for the Manchac area?

Because Baton Rouge is considered a large metro area in Louisiana.

Providence is considered a large metro area of Rhode Island. Should we compare it to Chicago?

If you are directly debating the cost of living between Rhode Island and Illinois, sure.

That makes no sense. What you say is Louisiana has no cities that can compare with the large cities in Texas. You don’t try and force a square peg in a round hole

You can’t compare just Texas to Louisiana. Need to be way more specific

You guys are all welcome to move here.

Louisiana is probably the one fricking state in the country whose citizens presence in Texas I don’t mind at all ... and is not a detriment to the state, but a nice little bonus.

Similar in many many many ways, but different enough to add some spice in your life.

We should be competitive with states like Alabama or South Carolina though if we weren't run by morons.
Sadly, the hard truth is the morons run the state because the LA electorate is willing to elect morons and crooks. Louisiana culture as a whole tolerates mediocrity and fosters a (false) belief that there is nothing that can be done about any of it. So the cycle perpetuates generationally. I think we’d rather complain about the conditions than do the hard work it would take to make positive changes happen. Is it ignorance, laziness or ...?

First of all, I can’t believe this topic is being discussed again.

Quality of life and happiness are subjective and individual. Your city, your neighborhood, your house, your preferences, your family, your job, etc. all play a part. It’s can’t be generalized into “good place” and “bad place.” That being said, if you feel the need to research, compare and advertise tax rates, property values, ACT scores, etc. to justify where you live, you should 100% move.

Which was my original point. Unless you are trying to live in New Orleans and only New Orleans, all other cities in Louisiana are going to be much more affordable compared to the metropolitan areas of Texas.

That's kind of the topic. If you make $150,000 in a small city or rural area, you'll do fine in any state in America.

Bro -- I have seen it. I bought my house, which is not a tear down for less than $300K and a neighbor's home just sold for around $300K. These homes are about 15 years old but in great shape and move in ready.

Then they are townhomes or patio homes and probably less than or around 2000 sf. They aren't 7000 sf lots with a 3500 SF house on them.

Baton rouge may be as expensive or more than Houston. It's fricking shameful.

The cost of living is actually pretty comparable, which is crazy since Houston is so much larger.

People shite on Houston because it's ugly, but that city is doing a lot right now to improve its image and attract young professionals. I think Houston will be considered a "cool" city in 10 years.

Yea and that's plenty of space for single or young childless couple which is what most of the people around here are.

I never claimed it was McMansion land but most people are smart enough to realize that 3500 sq ft houses are retarded and more work than they are worth.

I can walk to or bike to the trails from my house and have plenty of restaurants and bars within 5 minutes of me. This area suits my life perfectly and I only have a 15 minute commute to my office.

You can enjoy your McMansion out in the burbs and hour long commute but I am just fine in my house.

Better add a few more thousands to those Texas property taxes..

My sister lived in Denton County and her PT was 12K for an average house.

10,000 people moved from Louisiana to TX alone last year. Let that sink in.
