You can't even compare the two states. One is a borderline 3rd world country and the other is a booming new world.

The truth is there is no comparison

You will have a better job market, better schools, better infrastructure, better govt, better everything in Texas

We chose to stay in Louisiana because of family and just the fact that moving is a pain

Yeah. Is there a non-magnet public school in LA that achieves an average of 26?

They've never really been comparable. Louisiana can't compete with a state like Texas. We should be competitive with states like Alabama or South Carolina though if we weren't run by morons.

People always point to demographics as the blame but then I look at a state like Georgia which is very close to LA from that standpoint but a far better state.

Greater Heights -- Shady Acres still has a few gems sub $300K but they go quickly.

No it doesn't. They're selling that shite at lot value. Those homes are meant to be torn the frick down, not lived in. At minimum they need renovations out the arse. Small, renovated homes are selling for $450k. I'm taking less than 2000 SF. And this was 5 years ago. That market is going crazy. These aren't "gems." And you better be ok with sending your kids to private school because the schools in that area are terrible unless you're zoned to Oak Forest or Garden Oaks.

Bro -- I have seen it. I bought my house, which is not a tear down for less than $300K and a neighbor's home just sold for around $300K. These homes are about 15 years old but in great shape and move in ready.

There are not many left now but there are a few.

Good thing I don't have kids nor are there plans for any for about 5 years. This area is perfect for a late 20s and early 30s single or childless couple. I never claimed it was for everyone but it suits my needs perfectly.

You have to go pretty far outside the major cities to get a lot of house for 350k

You can get a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom in a solid area in any Louisiana city not named New Orleans for that price. I'm not talking about McMansions.

Good luck finding that in Austin

Not in BR, really. At least not one that’s in serious need of updating.

Although I suppose it depends on what you consider a “solid area”

Sometimes you get what you pay for. There’s a reason Austin is expensive - it’s a place people actually want to live.

Nah. You can buy a really nice home in a neighborhood like Oak Hills Place for 350k. You can buy a house in a decent area for 250k.

I’m completely out of touch with the BR market, so I’m sure you’re right.

I just remember trying to find a house in Southdowns years ago and $350k (not an OT joke) seemed to be the base-level for a decent home.

Southdowns is one of the hot areas that's priced higher than most. Really anything that close to LSU that's not ghetto will carry a premium.

BR, despite all of its faults, isn't as expensive of a real estate market as people make it out to be. There are plenty of decent neighborhoods in SBR with houses in the 220-250k range.

Well I know for a fact that the market in Collegetown a buyers market right now. Seems like you can’t give those homes away right now.

it’s much harder to be able to afford 350k in Louisiana than Texas

Immediately south of LSU near LSU Avenue? If so, most of those houses are 500k+. They are pretty much an outlier compared to most of BR. I do like that neighborhood but couldn't imagine having to deal with LSU traffic to take my kid to school daily at 41 years old.

Yeah, collegetown is comprised of the streets immediately surrounding LSU Avenue. Almost all the homes are certainly more than $500k, usually much higher. It’s where Todd Graves lives.

It’s definitely a slow market for sellers around there right now. Used to be that those homes would get snatched up with the quickness.

You are comparing BR to Austin

A city with 225k people to a city with 950k people

Why don’t you compare BR to a city in Tx with similar population like Lubbock or
Plano
