Once the Mall of LA opened, the death of Cortana was swift. Being dropped off at the entrance next to Service Merchandise, so we could go to the music store, was a must. Roaming around a mall as a teenager was pure freedom.

I saw the re-release of Disney's "Song of the South" at the Bon Marche theater. I believe that movie is now banned.

The last time I went to an indoor mall was about 7 years ago and it looked like Cortana, before it closed.

That looks so 1980-1990’s.

For nostalgia, the Morgan City mall is a time warp to the 1970’s. The cinema closed a few months ago. The only business left is Tampicos. The inside is now closed due to deteriorating conditions. Here are some pictures from years ago.

Of course you could consider this as a lost mall or a mall that failed in so many levels. It lacked an anchor store, and Morgan City was surrounded by larger cities and bigger malls. Also road access, you could say that eastern St. Mary’s retail strip moved from Morgan City to Bayou Vista and Patterson when US 90 was rerouted to the new 4 lane.

I used to work next door to Mama Brava and would chow down quite often on their yummy pizza slices and enjoy a few cold ones after work.

Patterson
eh I don’t know about that. We really only had the sonic and the couple stores in the strip with missys (screw you Cyprus point it’s always missys to me). Morgan city is definitely more of a retail corridor.

I have very very faint memories of being in the mall when a couple stores were open. (Don’t know what they were I was maybe 4 or 5). As of late we had a family friend that had a cell repair business in there that did fairly well that had to move out. Part of me wonders how he held on so long in there.

Alumni and survived Cortana for about 6 months in early 2000’s working at Eddie Bauer. Would have quit within a week but a cute girl kept me hanging on.

You would be correct there about Patterson, since it really didn’t build all the way out to 90 except for a few businesses like Sonic. I was thinking more of the Golf course and recreation area that was built on the other side of that big bend in the Teche, but other than that Patterson in that area is pretty much open land.

When I drive through old 90 between Morgan City and Amelia get a ghost town feeling, with a large 4 lane road and traffic that a two lane street could handle. Now back in the 80’s and 90’s before the rerouting of 90, that road was hopping. Couple that with the Amelia red light district with a strip club every 1/4 mile, the place seemed very busy for a small town. Now it is pretty much crickets. Has DOTD done any work on that bridge on 182 that is down to one lane?

I feel sorry for a heavy load trucker that has to traverse that area and detour off of the “new” 90 into traffic in Morgan City on 182 only to come to another deficient bridge that is only 1 lane.

Cortana was a good mall and deserves respect and fond memories but most mall experts would agree it was pretty bland and basic.

Just like cigarette ads used to say 9 out of 10 medical experts smoke x cigarettes and so should you.

Sometimes those experts are paid for a desired result.

I used to work AT Mama Brava. I probably bussed your table prematurely when you went to the bathroom.

Orange Julius or something like that. Small fast food window. Was also a Subway at some point.
