I'm in Middle Tennessee today for business and I saw something pretty crazy. As you know, a case of Coronavirus was recently reported there. So I was shopping in Baw-Mart today when I saw a family of 5 who looked straight out of a post-apocalyptic movie. They were all wearing straight up gas-masks, like real WW1-style gas masks, and they all had long sleeves (surprised it wasn't hazmat suits), surgical gloves and tactical pants. Every person in the family had a buggy and they were cleaning the place out. The carts were filled with cans, bread, water and cleaning supplies. They also scooted away quite fast when other people approached them. The whole thing was funny in my mind and shows how crazy people can get when they listen to the sensationalized coverage of the virus. I also wonder if these people were doomsday preppers. Do you think this level of precaution was justified? I personally think the whole thing will blow over by the end of the summer.

They might have a sickly 90 year old parent living at their house for all you know

Obviously this ain’t the Black Plague or anything but it’s going to spread and lots of old people wkll die

I would have just followed them around the store while coughing.

What’s happening is that the powers that be are focused on preventing the spread, and the regular people are not picking up on the fact that they aren’t going to die if they get it.

Seems like that wouldn't be an unusual sight in a Tennessee Wal-Mart.

What's funny though is that many of these people are the same ones who don't get a flu shot as they are convinced that it gives you the flu.

Add in the fact that the mom was quite large and you have a good point.

You're exaggerations are just as ridiculous. I hope that makes sense to you but I have a feeling you actually believe all that you wrote. Your "sensationalism" may be all in your head. Seek help.

They can do what they want. Is there a limit on how much food you can buy?

Or maybe they were both sick and didn't want to spread germs?

I was forced to wear a mask at the doctors office this week because I had a fever and cold symptoms.

14 deaths out of ~225 cases in a country like the US seems like a high rate to me for a virus related to the common cold.

It does seem silly when there's so few cases, even worldwide, but I definitely don't think it's a bad thing that people are being more careful.
