Italian PM Conte of ????+4,000 #COVID19 dead

Yeah, seems a little behind the 8 ball.... Just like the US in halting travel from other countries and expanding testing.

Prof Ricciardi added that Italy’s death rate may also appear high because of how doctors record fatalities.
“The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus.
“On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three,” he says.

Uh....what exactly was Italy supposedly doing beforehand?
Posted on 3/21/20 at 7:56 pm to tigerskin
People have assumed italy has been on “lockdown” for over a week.... uh. Guess not.
Posted on 3/21/20 at 7:56 pm to rds dc
So what kind of lockdown were they in since the 8th?
What, did they just close bars and resturants like some US states?
I thought they were already doing the non essential business thing.

Everything you've done on the last page or two is just a shitty troll job, right?
It's all true except the part about letting him out of the house or letting my son go to some party with 50 other kids. It may be an over reaction on our part to keep him house bound but we're playing it safe.

I thought Italy was so locked down you had to have a certificate or something to go somewhere?
Was that a lie?

I have a relative in Milan. They’ve been on lockdown for at least 2 weeks. They have to go online and complete a form explaining where they need to go, how long, etc. If the govt approves, they are required to carry a print out of the approval when they are out.

i think the original measures were only for certain areas of central and northern italy, where the cases were so high...maybe they've expanded that throughout the country now...

It is not limited to masks and it is not limited to this crisis. On a weekly basis we are on backorder for a multitude of products and drugs are manufactured outside of our country. The reason? Because its cheaper and the bottomline in a for profit system matters.
The reason is because we didn’t do anything to incentivize those manufacturers to produce those products in the US. A decision was made 20+ years ago to let our manufacturing jobs move out of the US to China, Mexico, Indonesia, and several other countries with starving wages. A lot of the trade negotiations we are seeing now are in effort to even the playing field to bring some of those jobs back to the US, along with the product.
This situation shows that it’s vital to have essential medical and pharmaceutical manufacturing in the US. The US contributes more to medical R&D than any other country. Our staff and very well trained. Our facilities are equipped. Our healthcare system isn’t the issue. It’s the manufacturing and supply.

Looked it up.
All stores outside essentials were closed previously.
Now it’s all businesses and factories outside of essentials.

oh, okay...the travel restrictions announced on 3/8 were for 15 provinces, not the whole country...i guess that is what i was thinking of...

Italy has had various regions of the country under different levels of lock downs. This puts the whole entire country under the most restrictive lock downs that were only being deployed in a few of the northern areas.

That's rich coming from China. No other free country is going to match China's version of a lockdown, nor should they.
