Pro Publica is also a legitimate reporting outlet unlike some of the links or citation-less "sources" people have posted.

This cites an anonymous source because they fear a backlash from their employer for divulging info that they probably shouldn't.

You realize the vast majority of reporting never names specific sources? Yes, even Fox News. By citation-less I mean someone who posts something without a link or reference to where they get the information.

If you think you have it (fever and a dry cough or chills) go to your nurse practitioner or doctor, not the ER.

Better yet, if you think you have it but your symptoms are not serious, stay the freak home. There's no need to go to the doctor unless you are dying.

NO

CALL your provider or urgent care FIRST and then get guidance on how to proceed.

Or use telemedicine.

NO.

If you think you have it, you CONTACT your doctor/NP FIRST. Then depending on their guidance, you come in/do what they say.

EVEN if you feel bad enough to head to the ER, you call the ER and let them know BEFORE you show up so they can avoid being infected by YOU.

That used to be the only option. Now that you can actually get tested without being at the point of being admitted to a hospital, it's good to get tested so that, if positive, you can warn your coworkers and get your spouse tested so that you can help stop the spread.

If you have fever and a dry cough with no snot, then you should definitely seek testing.

A story based on a single anonymous source when there were many other sources available on the subject.

Everything I'm seeing is that unless you're having fever+shortness of breath and/or you're in a seriously vulnerable category you're not getting tested

Our experience:

Call PCP

Talk to 3 people there

Call designated provider COVID line - multi hour wait (gave up in fairness to them)

Telemedicine - multi hour wait, get kicked out, another multi hour wait

Internet doctor gives you instruction to self isolate for another week, "ideally you'd get tested and you should if testing opens up a lot in a the next 2 weeks, but right now it's not going to happen and you should just keep treating at home"

Pretty much where we started, just with a doctor's blessing

That situation is changing. America tested 44,176 people today, and every day sees a big increase. Yesterday, we tested 34,654 and it was 27,372 the day before that. A week ago, it was 4,124.

Oh I'm sure it is. But the way it was put to us is that they were catching up on people who are vulnerable rather than having the luxury of testing youngish/healthyish people just to get a better sense of where we're at with the spread and confirm counts.

I would think that should be shifting somewhat over the next 10 days, at this rate.

Taken from the Poli board, but interesting if true...

The Wuhan Institute of Virology -- based in the Chinese city at the center of the epidemic -- has applied for a patent in China for the use of the antiviral drug, known as remdesivir, in treating the ailment. The application was made on Jan. 21 together with a military academy, according to a Feb. 4 statement on the institute’s website.

China knew about the effectiveness of remdesivir as far back as late-January. They made a move to patent the drug back on January 21. This linked article was written back on February 5.

It's owned by Gilead.

I don't understand why a Chinese company is trying to patent another company's product. I guess it's a patent for China?
