Fewer than you'd expect

they were incredibly aggressive testing people with symptoms and people they came into contact with.

The Diamond Princess data is most likely the high end for the CFR here in the US. The average age on that ship was 58. The average age in the US is 38. That makes a huge different for a virus that kills mostly older individuals.
Agree that might be the case if we keep the caseload low enough to treat everyone. The CFR will jump in hotspot areas if we take the do little or do nothing approach.

Ell, I think if Italy wouldn’t have happened, for the most part there would have been emphasized hand washing, social distancing etc. but less dramatic actions taken.
When Italy started having overfilled ICUs with choices to make of who gets a vent and who doesn’t, that changed the ballgame.
I don’t know what actions are enough versus too much. Just saying (as I said since the beginning), they will do all they can to not let Italy happen here.

It's trolling to point out you mixed up max and min in an effort to fear momger? Sure thing buddy
I explained multiple times why what I said min. You didn't present any real data to refute that other than to say more widespread testing will decrease the CFR - which I agree with, but you are negating that using current cases and current deaths gives a very flawed CFR.
I will concede that for people under 70 that are otherwise healthy, the cure may be worse than the sickness.

And I explained to you why that's wrong.

I just hate that italy is the barometer here.
At least I was true to my word. I told y’all that if my Boston travel got cancelled, I’d blame the hysteria and not the virus. That was a joke at the time because I never thought it would come to this.

I’ve already had this convo with VAbuckeye.
My wife could lose her job. Eat shite a-hole.
ETA: not to mention my six year old son who is out of school for at least 30 days.
But sure, pretend that I’m some millennial with no responsibility or life that can be disrupted by the whole world shutting down.

So do we panic now or is it not really that bad
You act like anyone who is concerned is panicking. No reason to panic. Every reason to take it seriously. That is all.

An emotional appeal in a thread about overreactions and emotional appeals is...interesting.

He doesn’t know shite about me and my life Petti
But I’ll agree that for this thread, that’s par for the course.

Help me understand how an extensive quarantine is as effective as a moderate quarantine and specific extensive quarantine of those who have pre-existing conditions or the elderly? Other than hoping this tapers off in the summer, or developing a vaccine, this seems to delay an eventual spread assuming all other factors equal. Otherwise, it would arguably seem safer to allow the virus to run its course within the community, which my understanding results in a two week sickness and two week "shedding" period. At that point, you can no longer transmit the virus. This all comes at a huge economic cost, which has real life/death implications on its own.

For those looking for some good news, here is an example in the media of someone who tested positive multiple times and never showed a single symptom. I would say he is slightly high risk as well with the kidney transplant.

Thousands? We'll be at 10000 by the weekend or shortly after. Where does it go from there?

Ah. I see I touched a nerve. We all do. So why are you discounting the elders of others so easily?

1) Because the virus will get spread to the elderly by younger people.
2) It will overload the healthcare system if everyone gets sick at once. Have you paid attention to the "flattening of the curve?"

Italy isn't the barometer. It's the warning of where this can go.
