PSA to the thread: 99% of people following this thread couldn’t give a shite less about your personal take on how others are reacting to or handling this subject. 99% of us are here to share the news and our thoughts on what is happening out in the real world, not how we feel about others in this thread. If you want to talk about the latter, start your own thread instead of shitting in this one.

It seems like quarantining the people at the highest risk would be a heck of lot more logical than what’s going on. Of course that would require someone using their brain instead of their feelings.
Correct. He rolled his eyes at my suggestion of "washing my hands and not hanging around the sick/elderly if I am feeling ill"

So exactly what else is there for me to do?

The longest bull market in history was bound to end. Why does it matter unless unless you are about to retire.

Y’all don’t care about old people anyway. Why are you worried about their 401ks

Ahhhhhh FINALLY

we finally get to the root of the issue. I had a good feeling it was the market. We are the scapegoat for a crashing market. Your market was overvalued with the largest bull run in history. Your judgement is clouded by your desire to see continued new highs. You must be new to the market chief. There’s up and downs

What do they say... Bulls make money, bears make money, and pigs (like you) get slaughtered.

Are you trying to say the market volatility is not related to panic from COVID-19 and companies restricting business travel in a major way?

Because that's a terrible take.

Keep talking out of your arse, dude.

It's clear you are just regurgitating shite about the market and have no idea what you are talking about. The same as the your fear-mongering of the virus.

Not at all. But I think the market was primed for any type of disturbance to cause a pull back. But that’s just my uninformed opinion.

I’ll just go back to ignoring the trolls, sometimes it’s hard not to feed them a bit.

Right?

Bull run just coincidentally ended right at the height of a panic about a pandemic, businesses restricting travel everywhere, and add on top of it all the price of oil plummeting.

Nope, just your everyday market corrections with nothing to see here. What planet is this guy on?

an Italy type quarantine here for more than a week would likely send the country into a depression. pretty big deal to people who are employed.

I said it caused the downturn. Go back and read.

I was just trying to figure out why some people here are so fricking pissed and telling calm people to calm down on a message board.

It’s obvious now they are blaming the stock market on panic and not reality. I could see how that would cause you to overreact and attack people on a message board that you think are responsible for the panic.

It all makes sense

What a hot take!

With the exception of H1N1, the market has historically dipped on fears of any virus. The only reason H1N1 was the exception is because we were emerging from 2008 and stocks were very undervalued. Also, there was a vaccine being tested within 4 months of the outbreak.

What I am getting at is that yet again you are regurgitating shite you read somewhere and truly have no idea what you are talking about.

It’s actually Frisco, TX but same county and has been confirmed positive. His wife and 3 year old child also tested positive. They have 3 other children who attend local schools. Email that was sent to FISD parents this morning:

Dear Frisco ISD parents/guardians,

Below is a press release from Collin County with updated information on the coronavirus case in our community. Frisco ISD will continue to update you on any additional information we receive from our county health departments. Thank you for your support and patience during this time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, March 10, 2020

MEDIA INQUIRIES: Tim Wyatt, 972-548-4673
HEALTH INQUIRIES: 972-548-5500

Three Confirmed Cases of Novel Coronavirus in Collin County

(McKINNEY, Texas) - Collin County Health Care Services (CCHCS) has confirmed three cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) within Collin County. The updated number includes the original case of a Frisco man reported on Monday, as well as his wife and a three-year-old child, one of the family’s four children.

Health officials tested all six members of the family and a close family contact on Monday afternoon, hours after the father reported he had tested “presumptive positive” for the virus. All seven individuals are in stable condition and in self-quarantine in their own homes. One school-age child had an inconclusive test and is being re-tested. All other individuals tested negative.

The father, believed to have been exposed to the virus during a business trip to California in late February, did not show any symptoms while flying home, and officials said he did not pose a risk to others who were on the same plane. Likewise, health officials confirmed that both of the family’s school-age children did not have symptoms and were not contagious at any time while they attended school.

County epidemiology staff are closely monitoring the cases, working to identify additional individuals who had contact with the confirmed cases while the individuals were symptomatic. Those identified as having close contact to the cases will be contacted by health officials.

The immediate risk of transmission in Collin County remains low.

Like most Texas counties, Collin County does not have an onsite laboratory to test for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-2019), but two commercial laboratories have announced their capability to perform COVID-19 testing. Quest Diagnostics began testing March 9, and LabCorp began testing March 5. People seeking testing should contact their doctor for testing referrals.

I’m confused about the bolded portion as I thought the virus could be spread before symptoms began?

It would not be good for the American public and their well-being if the market went into a free fall much worse than it already has.

That wouldn't just be felt by rich people on wall street and banks, it would be felt by average Joe Citizen in the worst of ways. Job layoffs, shortages of goods on store shelves, retirement accounts drained, housing market crash, etc.

I think what they’re saying is he wouldn’t have been coughing or sneezing while on the plane. Technically someone still could’ve gotten it’s just unlikely
