For Honkus, and from our buddy HubbaBubba on the Poli Board:
NYT Article

Coronavirus Live Updates: Xi Jinping Warns China Faces ‘Grave Situation’
The authorities reported 15 new deaths in Wuhan, including a medical professional in his 60s.
RIGHT NOWThe State Department has ordered all American workers at the U.S. Consulate in Wuhan to evacuate. The city of Beijing has announced travel restrictions.
quote:
In a sign of how the spread of the coronavirus has deeply shaken China, the nation’s top leader, Xi Jinping, convened a meeting of the Communist Party leadership on Saturday to begin an offensive to stanch the spread of the outbreak, improve treatment of victims and speed supplies to areas under lockdown.
“We’re sure to be able to win in this battle to beat the epidemic through prevention and control,” Mr. Xi said, according to an official summary delivered on Chinese television.
Until now, Mr. Xi had said little publicly about the growing crisis, even as confirmed cases of infection with the new and little understood coronavirus multiplied over the past week and Wuhan — the city in central China where the virus first spread — and nearby areas came under a net of travel restrictions intended to contain the outbreak.
Mr. Xi issued brief orders about the emerging epidemic five days ago. Now, though, he has ordered mobilization across the country and drastic measures to hold back the virus, which is linked to pneumonia symptoms that can be deadly.

I've said it many times in this thread, but for those minimizing this, you're crazy.
China would rather have this buried and not known at all. This announcement, along with the city lockdowns shows how really bad this is.

Just about to post that.

Thanks bruh. Yea it's a nightmare. Told my wife already if we get out of here I am NEVER coming back.
Just called the embassy # posted a few pages back. Spoke with a lady with very broken English who informed me the embassy is closed for CNY. Told me to check the embassy website for more info.
Your government at work. Can’t even help U.S. citizens in China out in the midst of a pandemic because of the Chinese New Year, but people want to give them full control of our healthcare here.
Honkus, I hope you and your family can get out soon. Prayers out to you.

And to add to your Pooh comment, Disney doesn't shut down their parks, much less indefinitely unless it's bad. Greedy asses.

Compared to the Ebola issue a few years ago, we were told this is not as bad.
Thoughts ?

Honkus
Maybe make a post on the OT with your information and whatnot. Hopefully someone on this board can do something to help you out. I'll bump the shite out of it, I feel your situation deserves its own thread to draw more attention to it

Not as lethal for individual cases. Faster spreading. In a higher population area with higher likelihood of global contagion. Think of it as like a bad flu on steroids.

I wouldn't go that far. There are just a lot more unknowns with this than the flu. We also have no vaccine.

Get more eyes on your situation. Can't hurt. Good luck!

Read an article on Al Jazeera (pretty good source for this type of stuff) that said about 25% of all cases are “severe”, and most of the deaths were part of that 25% in elderly.
It’s worth noting that Ebola had a very high mortality rate in the shithole countries in which it originated but those infected with it here in the US survived.
