Agreed. I would pursue the chartered flight and state department route emphasizing that he’s traveling with a 10 week old baby since that would be considered a higher risk.

i'm not sure if we can get to Wuhan to catch this US chartered plane but does anyone know who to contact about this? GUess we can call the US state department?
Honkus do you need help with this? Do you have a number?

Im not sure Honkus. But I read from WSJ that the consulate in Wuhan is “reaching out to the ones it knows about to offer them a seat”.
This is why it’s so important to inform the state department of your travel plans abroad. It takes 5 minutes to submit your travel and contact info online.
Not intended for Honkus, just a general PSA.

thx civ. i called the U.S. Embassy’s emergency line at (010) 8531- 3000. nice chinese lady answers, i explain our predicament. she says "You're a US citizen? hold on 1 sec"... i get transferred... i'm thinking holy shite, we are cooking with gas now.
Someone answers "Beijing Embassy" again not to be xenophobic but it was another lady with strong foreign accent (not chinese but def not american). Explained to her we heard there was a plane heading to Wuhan, she said that wasnt exactly the case. she gave me an email address (BeijingACS@state.gov) to send my info to. waiting to hear back.

Honkus coming through with pics of the wife!
J/k I wish you and your family well. Keep us posted. I don't have Twitter, but if you need anyone to search for something, post it and we'll get it done.
Eta: I see lots of articles about the us charter, but no information on how to contact anyone. Here is the info for the WSJ journalists that wrote the article. They may have a contact.
Write to James T. Areddy at james.areddy@wsj.com and Liza Lin at Liza.Lin@wsj.com

Honkus would you like us to cast a wider net with spreading the word? What can we do to help? Thinking we could send out a link to your tweet with an SOS post and see if anyone has any connections to the state department.
Edit: If you can I would provide your name so if we reach out to someone we can provide a name. If you are able to get in touch with someone at the state department and get it worked out that is great.

230 seats on a flight to evacuate American citizens and diplomat leaving Sunday
US evacuating citizens from Wuhan
quote:
A charter flight to evacuate U.S. citizens and diplomats from Wuhan is being arranged by government officials as the Chinese city remains gripped by a coronavirus epidemic, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday morning. The Boeing 767 is slated to leave China Sunday. The U.S. consulate in Wuhan is currently reaching out to as many of the estimated 1,000 American citizens in the area as possible, but the WSJ reported the secured charter flight only seats around 230 people. It will, however, provide in-flight U.S. medical personnel for all passengers.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing said that on Thursday, the State Department had ordered the departure of family members and all U.S. government employees at its Wuhan consulate, but declined to comment on the report that other U.S. citizens would be evacuated from the city. The decision to move U.S. consulate staff and families was due to the outbreak of the coronavirus "and logistical disruptions stemming from restricted transportation and overwhelmed hospitals in the city of Wuhan," the spokesperson said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

My wife will be contacting our state senators and congressmen once we get lil man to sleep. We live in Rhode island but I'm originally from BR,LA fwiw.
If anyone knows how to make a tweet blow up.. perhaps @ tweeting media or other influencers with a lot of followers and asking for a retweet? Here is the tweet- LINK
any help yall can provide getting the word out would be appreciated. I think we've done mostly what we can at this point (emailed our info to the consulate), but any extra exposure cannot hurt! Thanks again!
