Y’all gonna make a run for it or just hunker down? Although, I’d imagine hunkering down is prob going to result in a 2-3 week delay in you getting home

IMO a longshot we make that flight. It's not til tomorrow night at 9pm (28hrs from now).
Either-
1. Yichang airport is gonna get shut down (will probably happen overnight)
2. Airport keeps operating but we cannot make it there due to roads being shut down.
We'll see.. I'm so screwed when it comes to work. I'm in sales so I'm already behind the 8ball missing 2 weeks for this visit.. if I have to miss a month or more I am fricked

It's crazy to me that people across the world think you can get a cold from being out in the rain. I thought that was limited to American mothers.
You cant catch a cold from it, but your body is wet and cold and doing what it can to battle that, which leads to it being more susceptible to an invading bug or virus.
So there is some truth to it.

It’s one of those cases that while it’s true in theory it isn’t true in practice.
Passing environmental changes like that do not cause a significant depression of the immune system, certainly not to the point to change from not sick to sick.
If it were that sensitive, the immune system would ALWAYS be depressed from some trigger or another.

Sorry i've been glancing here off and on but do you need flight assistance getting out of china? I'm midflight with nothing better to do so happy to browse a bit.
What airports are you close to (looks like Yichang), when are you supposed to fly back (what airline), and is it just you or others?
A lot of the airlines have waivers so we can try and see if youre covered under one of them. If not might be worth it to at least get out of the country.
Just browsed air china's site and china southern, air china has nothing til feb 3rd, china southern has a few options but it seems like your flight in 28 hrs is before the available option on tuesday the 28th.

It's already turned into a conspiracy
I don’t think it’s much of a conspiracy when you have an authoritarian government with more regard for international optics than its own people.
The reported deaths of 41 is laughable considering how much trouble they’re going to. 4% mortality rate and they’re shutting down the whole country basically and doing billions in damage to their economy.

US chartering flight to evacuate citizens from Wuhan
The US is beginning an operation to evacuate American citizens and diplomats from Wuhan, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has said.

well we had a flight out of yichang for tomorrow night but we just got a message it was cancelled. our original flight back friday from yichang to shanghai (then to NYC) is also cancelled.
i'm not sure if we can get to Wuhan to catch this US chartered plane but does anyone know who to contact about this? GUess we can call the US state department?

The problem is making that flight with the roads closed and a 10 week old baby. I’m more concerned about exposing a 10 week old baby to this virus.

State department sounds like a good bet, would at least let them know where you are in case the situation gets worse.
I did notice some flights still landing at the Yichang airport tonight, best bet is to get on one of the first flights tomorrow am. But we need to find you one (to anywhere essentially)

Definitely call the US State Department. Even if they can’t get you on this particular flight they need to know you’re there and can help coordinate getting you out of there.

Call the embassy or closest consulate. If they give you the run around about being “closed” for New Years ask for the marine duty officer on call. They will be able to point you in the right direction.

LINK
Reposting the link to the SepentZa YouTube video where they share what is going on from Chinese social media (they lived in China for years and can read Chinese) and from inside sources.
If someone has more time maybe they can post a more detailed breakdown for Honkus.
Main takeaways from what I heard in first 20 minutes:
1) Numbers are much larger than what is being reported. They have examples where it is at least double in certain cities but likely more.
2) People are and have escaped the city and gone elsewhere with symptoms.
3) They warmed everyone 8 hours in advance there would be a lockdown so huge numbers of people escaped.
4) Many are still not taking it seriously and people are traveling all over the country regardless because it is very important culturally
5) Sanitation is terrible in general. Hand washing with soap is very rare and the masks are not the right ones to use. So expect this to grow by the day.
6) CCP bungled this big time and arrested journalists on the front end for reporting on it

Did you complete the online form to let the State Dept know about your trip in advance? If so, they already know you are there and should have contact you.
From what I understand, US Embassies are closed? Seems they would open up to help Americans in the area.

Missed this part of the story. Given this, I'm hesitant to suggest an airport then. Any of these flights could have been to the infected zones with passengers and they're just flying around the country.
I'm also having difficulty not knowing the geography of what is quarantined versus where the airline flights are headed to. Making it a challenge trying to find a flight that gets out of the infected zones but with options to get back to the US
