If you catch Covid what are the odds of it coming back?
It happens all the time.

Dunno, but you may lose .5% of them in the exercise...
2% is the mortality rate, but that includes the most likely to succumb to it, old and pre-existing conditions). So I’d imagine with young kids, prob a .5% mortality.

South Korea is running the most aggressive testing program in the world. They are currently waiting on test results for 21,097 people and have cleared 35,298 via testing. That's a lot of testing.

The information prior to this point is iffy at best.

I put it on CNN for 10 seconds and their headline was "Trump downplays health concerns amid global crisis." I wish people on the left wouldn't believe everything someone writes on a TV screen.

Yep. This is SARS, Zika 2.0.
I'm not saying we ignore it but people need to calm down a bit. The media loves to sensationalize this stuff.

What part of that headline do you object to? I watched the press conference yesterday, while the CDC said that schools should dust off their pandemic preparedness materials, President Trump said we only have 15 cases in the US and they should clear up soon.
We have more than 15 cases (60) in USA and one case of unknown origin. The case of unknown origin is someone who has not travelled to China nor come in contact with anyone known to be infected.
I understand people like to bash CNN, but in this instance, I'm not sure why.

Should I be concerned that a woman I had a meeting with this morning spent last 2 weeks in a Thai hospital with a cough, yet no fever and flew back SK airlines?

Apparently, some impressive researchers in Guangzhou already had the viral genome sequenced on December 27, and they sent the results to the Chinese CDC on January 1.
Then, from January 2-3, all of the research institutes that had samples of Covid-19 were told to destroy their samples and not leak information to the public.
I read an article that said it had to have started around Thanksgiving in Wuhan. I cannot find it now. But, this is in line with that.

I don't think you paid attention to the press conference because he mentioned both the "local" numbers and the "imported" numbers of the people we repatriated.

If you search Google for articles in December you'll find a few talking about the "mystery illness" pneumonia outbreak. Probably when there were only a few hundred infections. Interesting to read stuff in hindsight.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being over prepared. Well, you know, as long as the stock market doesn’t tank because of it.
But if more people would take it seriously instead of joking about it, people wouldn’t have to make such serious declarations

I'd argue it's a much weaker SARS but with far larger impacts
From the outset they've said a key difference between COVID19 and 2002 SARS is that with SARS you were absolutely going to get severely ill. Not the case here.

Hopefully, this data set helps clear up the uncertainty around CFR. The WHO team in China has said that they didn't see anything that suggested that it is lower but when challenged on the claim they provided mostly anecdotal evidence. The WHO report on the China mission is scheduled for release later today, so maybe there will be a more detailed explanation in the report. Also, probably more important than CFR is hospitalization rates and would seem like South Korea would be a better comparison for the US vs China.

We tend to swing too far towards the apocalypse porn category, where I think the media and many people in this thread are finding themselves.
There is nothing wrong with being prepared.
There is something VERY wrong with saying things like that CDC official did where everyone should start panicking.
That does little good.
