Singapore now has more homebrew cases than imported cases. The WHO "tip of the iceberg" comment...

Seems like no one has this thing under control yet.

There has been one paper suggesting asymptomatic transmission, and that paper was widely criticized. We don't know that yet, but is seems reasonable to be safe than sorry.

So is China finally going to ban some of their food markets that sell random animals?

I just heard a story on the radio about mass cremations in Wohan China to the point satellites are picking up the chemical signature of burning bodies. I did a Google search after I heard this. This is what’ve found.

If we really get tough on this stuff. Do immediate travel and import bans when diseases first found then they will have to. But if the world keeps bowing to China then nothing will ever change.

I figured the expenses of building hospitals and the toll taken on their health care system hurts them more than eating a few bats.

You would think. They didn't change enough after SARS, though. I am hoping this pushes them to get better.
Tariffs already helped move some manufacturing out of China. This will push even more to other countries. That is what will make China change. People dying and them building hospitals is nothing for China.

Sulfur dioxide is produced by lots of industrial sources, esp coal fired power plants. That is likely a coal burning power plant? Releases can vary based on the coal, esp without proper controls in place.

@WHO press briefing: countries across Africa are now getting #coronavirus #2019ncov diagnostic kits and training. As @T_Inglesby says, we should brace for a wave of cases.
There have been numerous reports of potential deaths in Africa but nothing confirmed.

To be fair, have you seen pictures of these hospitals? They aren't exactly Our Lady of the Lake.

I can't imagine plumes of sulfur dioxide over a large Chinese city is out of the ordinary
Posted on 2/10/20 at 10:56 am to upgrayedd
They aren’t. Similar plumes are observed other all major cities.
This is yet another case of it not being deadly enough so let’s make up some news and call it speculation.

CNBC article this morning referencing today's WHO briefing. 80% cases only demonstrate mild symptoms, 15% develop pnuemonia, 5% require hospital care etc. Seemingly good news.

I would assume they are probably burning all medical waste, which I will also assume is a monumental amount right now.

I looked up the head of the W.H.O.
He was the nominee of Ethiopia and among his accomplishments is the helping faciliate the building of the massive dam in Ethiopia that will greatly reduce the water flowing down the Nile River. Egypt is more than a little upset about that. Dr.Tedros wiki, possibly even a WokeWiki
This look at the obituary of a former WHO head who died in 2006 may give you an idea of what they hope to do and what doesn't get totally accomplished.

Or just that China is polluted as frick.
I don’t have a link but someone pulled up a map of what it looked like this time last year and it was basically the same.

Yeah, they burn a shitload of coal. Definitely makes sense to see that in the middle of winter
