I'm talking about other Chinese provinces. At first not many people were dying outside of Hubei/Wuhan.
But still china. Still no 1st world deaths.

Interesting that the Hong Kong racetrack is still open. Horse racing in Hong Kong is insanely popular and a weekend racecard will draw upwards of 100,000 spectators
They do races on Wednesday nights and its an amazing experience. Tons of business professionals.

I know, I'm just saying we might not be at the high water mark for this event even if the numbers in Wuhan have started slowing down the last few days.

I found a thing on the internet that ranked China as being #21 country in world health and US #59

I think we can all agree, those numbers have prob never been accurate, so why would we assume its true that they are slowing down now?
Talked to friends in SG and they said its getting intense down there. People are making runs on grocery and pharmacies.

Sounds like that ranking system employed a rigorous methodology.

Probably ranked on "inequality". In China everyone gets the same shite care, and to many of these NGOs this is wonderful because its egalitarian which is why they end up ranked high on these lists.
In the US, rich people get better care than people with less money, and that's the greatest evil of all time according to NGOs, world organizations, etc.

On paper, everyone is supposed to get the same crappy care.
In practice, Chinese citizens know that they better be prepared to bribe their way through the system. There are severe shortages of doctors, nurses, and medical equipment, especially away from the Eastern coastal areas of China, and that's one reason why we're seeing the crazy quarantines and mysterious stories of sick people being pushed away from medical centers.
One of my friends who used to teach in China needed a simple surgical procedure. In Guangzhou, the price the doctor expected him to pay was outrageous (and obviously had a healthy bribe factored in), so he went to Hong Kong and had the same procedure done for 1/8th the cost.

Disease disperal: potential model for a start.
LINK
This paper inroduces the way travel aps can be used to model the possible spread of this virus.
It goes back a year and follows aps for people traveling for the Chinese New Year.
We've heard about famiies returning to Wuhan for the event, but the huge exodus is an annual thing as people go home to families. The exodus from Wuhan stayed in Hubei province.
I don't have any way of knowing if the Chinese government has used a model like this one (from India), but it could explain the timing of some of their quarantines inside their country.

A group of researchers from Southampton University’s WorldPop research group, which studies population dynamics, used 2013-2015 data from Baidu’s location services and international flight itineraries to make a predictive global risk map for the likely spread of the virus from Wuhan.
quote:
Based on historical travel patterns, they identified 18 high-risk cities within China that received the most travellers from Wuhan during this period. They then used 2018 flight itineraries from the International Air Transport Association to map the global connectivity of those cities. They note that travel patterns after restrictions started rolling out on January 23 will not match historical norms and that the cities they identified are initial ports of landing; travelers could have subsequently moved elsewhere. The top 10 global destinations for travelers from high-risk Chinese cities around Lunar New Year, according to their analysis, were Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Australia.

Why anyone was allowed out is beyond me.
You circle the outbreak with machine guns.
Some guy from England went to singapore. He got it. He flew to the alps of france for a few days where he spread it, still no symptoms. Lots of sick in french alps now.
Back in jolly old. Now sick.

So I just got back yesterday from a week in Queretaro, Mexico and work up this morning with a 102 degree fever.
Is this karma for downplaying coronavirus in this thread?

How many chinamen did you interact with?
Posted on 2/9/20 at 2:14 pm to diat150
Directly? 0. Four from South Korea though. They had not had any interaction with China people though.
Through the airports and on the plane? I do t like to try to stereotype, but probably 10-15 smattered through the plane that "looked chinese". I've spent a shitload of time in korea, Japan, singapore, and China over the last 2 years, but none of them in the last 4 months. I know a chinaman when I see one, lol.

About 500 more new cases than yesterday for Hubei and more deaths. However, still less than 500 cases outside of China.
