To be fair, the flu had a few months head start and is an equal opportunity infector.
Also, “the flu” is many strains of influenza circulating around the world. If we include all the strains of corona viruses that are present in the human population, then the match-up is more even.

The shitty environment and living standards leads to a lot of things, including shitty hospitals and care, which leads to more people dying.
You’re the one that can’t simply accept when I say “shitty living conditions and quality of life’” it’s all encompassing.

Yes,the American died in Wuhan. This from the NYT
quote:
Few details about the American, who died on Thursday, were immediately available. The person was around 60 years old and died at Jinyintan Hospital in Wuhan, according to the United States Embassy in Beijing. Two people familiar with the matter said the person was a woman and had underlying health conditions.

Calm. Down.
I agreed with you that shitty hospitals could increase the mortality rate.
I just disagree with you that “shitty diet” contributed to the mortality. If anything a shitty American diet would make mortality higher here. Diabetes and obesity dramatically increase your chances of dying.
We were specifically talking about the case of the American dying in Wuhan then you shifted to saying “well a shitty diet caused this virus”

I was bucketing all of those things into shitty living standards over there...
Sorry for not being clear

This shite was created by the government and released on purpose to reduce Chinas ever increasing poor elderly population. Which due to the 1-2 Child policy China had for so long are mostly male.
This ties into the forced relocation of the poor older population to city housing aka ghettos that has been going on in recent years.

I think y’all are arguing past each other. One of you means shitty diet as in McDonald’s and kfc. The other means shitty dies as eating bats and road kill.

But there is growing concern that those NATs are producing large numbers of false negatives. In a Wednesday interview with state broadcaster CCTV, Wang Chen, an expert in critical diseases and director of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, said one characteristic of the virus was that “not all of those infected by it return positive NATs.”
“Even patients who definitely have the disease only come back positive 30% to 50% of the time,” Wang said. “Testing throat swabs (from potentially infected people) also returns a lot of false negatives.”

That cruise ship off Japan has 61 infected people, multiple nationalities. That's an additional 20 to the 41 reported most recently.
How are they going to deal with that? Any plan to begin taking people off, bc the news this morning said the 14 day quarantine of passengers resets every time a new case pops up

I understand and agree with his general premise
My point was that an unusual diet may have caused the first case, but after the virus has started our “shitty diet” may actually be a disadvantage. If you are 400 lbs and riddled with diabetes and hypertension you probably aren’t gunna make it.
However, I think that’s a very minor factor compared to their inferiority in medical care and availability which could be considered “living conditions”
So overall, his point is valid

What happens to the patients when all the medical staff has contracted the CV and dies..... That loss will be felt long after this virus has been contained. Such dedication on the healthcare staff, I don't know if I could be that dedicated. Shortly after Katrina the situation was horrible but nothing like this. I wonder if China is forcing these people to continue to be at the hospital even though they know they are killing off the very people that they need to contain this virus. God Bless them....

In that graph Hubei plus Wuhan = 38,556 total confirmed cases.
China = 34,598 confirmed cases.
????

Hubei contains the Wuhan numbers. It is equivalent to the state that Wuhan (city) is part of.

OK, thanks, did not know that.

Yes, that is how I read it. I was a bit surprised by the number of confirmed cases in China outside of Hubei.

False negative rate of 70%. That’s reassuring...

It’s really interesting to read the individual reports for the Japanese cases. A lot of them read like that where they test for it, it comes back negative. The patient is still sick and they test again days late (sometimes the same sample) and it’s positive
