My colleagues @bbcchinese have been told by sources at Wuhan hospital that Dr Li died at 9.30pm today, they're reporting that an outpouring of anger on social media lead authorities to put Dr Li, who had already passed, on life support and to force media to change reporting.. 1/2
What. The.
Hopefully this is just twitter nonsense. Is anyone else picking up this story?

Not yet. It's the BBC, so I can't imagine it's fake. Far more credible than 80% of the stuff posted in here.

This just gets stranger by the day.

The only facts that are really known about what's really going on in China are the steps they taking publicly, you don't have to be real bright to put 2 and 2 together and to realize they are underreporting the deaths by several thousand at the very least.

Edit: Clearly the Chinese authorities have shown themselves to be trustworthy time and again.

The first British national has tested positive for coronavirus after travelling back to the UK from Singapore, government sources have said.

Whitty pointed up the significance of the fact that the patient was infected in one of the 24 countries outside of China that have just 225 confirmed cases between them: “The person who caught this did not catch it in China, they caught it elsewhere in Asia. That’s an important point from an epidemiological point of view because, whilst it’s absolutely the case that by far the biggest risk remains in China … nevertheless there is now evidence of some limited transmission in a number of Asian countries.”

Rule 1 of the ChiComs is not to frick with the ChiComs. They can kill you and bring you back to life...and then kill you again.

Am I the only one that thinks these dumbasses in China have no clue how to contain this virus and if the outside world doesn't step in, it could get very out of hand? Seems like the Chinese leadership is only good for lying and suppressing figures of how many are sick and dead.
I'm worried that through their bravado and desperation they will send employees back to work before this virus is contained. Can the Chinese economy handle another week of "Chinese New Year"?

I think they have no choice in that matter.

In current severe global emergency situation of 2019-nCov outbreak, it is imperative to identify vulnerable and susceptible groups for effective protection and care. Recently, studies found that 2019-nCov and SARS-nCov share the same receptor, ACE2. In this study, we analyzed four large-scale datasets of normal lung tissue to investigate the disparities related to race, age, gender and smoking status in ACE2 gene expression. No significant disparities in ACE2 gene expression were found between racial groups (Asian vs Caucasian), age groups (>60 vs <60) or gender groups (male vs female). However, we observed significantly higher ACE2 gene expression in smoker samples compared to non-smoker samples. This indicates the smokers may be more susceptible to 2019-nCov and thus smoking history should be considered in identifying susceptible population and standardizing treatment regimen.

Which would make sense in regards to such a wide spread in China... I was absolutely amazed at the number of people that smoke over there.

BBC reporting new time of death (Damn you, Spamalot, for the Not Dead Yet song).
Strangest thing about Dr. Li: his specialty
And he was the first to send out a warning. That makes me wonder where the other Doctors in his area learned their skills, not to have noticed anything wrong. He saw a problem with six patients. Before the 30th of December.
