Seems like a common thread that calling the cops on anything that isn’t an emergency has a high chance of becoming one.

"Perceived threat" cited as justification for deadly force, but no mention of any weapon as part of said perceived threat. Gun found on bed next to dead woman only after they entered the house.

They gotta start sending black cops out to check on these situations. Takes racism off the table.

I get the media is pushing the racial aspect, but how about the cops stop being morons?

Cold front came through - we left our door open all day yesterday.

Lights on - why not go to the front door and announce yourself? It was a welfare check for God’s sake.

Trigger happy MF cop needs to spend the rest of his life in jail.

I don’t know that the cop should go to jail for life, but he should be fired. He is not policeman material if he’s that nervous. He should probably see some jail time as well.

Cops have a scary job at times. They do need to somehow cull the “ fraidy cats” cops out. The cop could have stepped to the side.He should not have been allowed to carry a gun.

Yeah I could see this one blowing up bigger than any other we've seen recently. Unless of course there's something we arent yet privy to. But that wording, "perceived threat".....perceived threat how!? No mention of weapon in hand or reaching or anything. Woman on the other side of the wall/window. What the hell made her such a threat??

My prediction: in order to sidestep the jumbo shite storm likely brewing as we speak, the DA gets the ball rolling quickly on throwing the book at this offcer.

laws and judges have created too much gray area for immunity, which simply shouldn't exist.

Survivor’s bias.

Just because you hear stories like this all the time doesn’t make it “common” or “high chance,” because you aren’t hearing about the hundreds if not thousands of occurances in between that turned out okay.

That said, I would love to hear the cop’s justification of why a welfare check left him so trigger happy.

Last I checked they're still legal for citizens to carry in their own home

And if there's a real threat the homeowner should get her gun.

This cop apparently violated a basic rule of gun safety - know your target and what's behind it.

They just ignore cop race in these stories and file it under police brutality and institutional racism.

It’s already happened multiple times.

I foresee a storm within the storm re: the gun. Unless there's some friend or family member who could say that was indeed her gun and they'd seen it before, could see some of the folks claiming a plant, drop gun. Adding major fuel to the fire. Still early tho, fire not raging yet.

The fact that the cops were called for a welfare check is what pisses me off the most about this. It's not like they were going to the house to serve a warrant at a house known to sell drugs and firearms. They were called to simply check on her wellbeing. Idk what was going on with her before, but her wellbeing definitely went down the drain now.

frick it, that police department deserves some protests.
