Lived there for years. I didn’t mind it, but I like Chicago better. I would take Pittsburgh over an East coast city any day of the week though. A south Louisiana native will have trouble adjusting to the food and winter. Pittsburgh is the best city in Pennsylvania by a wide margin.
Pittsburgh has some rust belt problems although it’s much farther along in reinventing itself than Detroit, Cleveland, Erie, or Buffalo. IMO it’s most similar to Cincy but the architecture and people are more “East coast” than Midwest. The younger people are mostly cool but keep to themselves. The older people seem to have a chip.
The outlying areas feel a lot like the southern US (everyone has a gun and a pickup truck - and the people that do not have a factory job are probably on disability). Most of the bars are themed towards professional sports instead of college sports. The countryside is gorgeous.
My advice is to stay off the parkway - especially at rush hour. Do not ever be in a position where you depend on that highway. It’s always clogged both inbound and outbound.
Where will you be working? What’s important to you - night life, public schools, outdoors shopping, etc.? Shadyside and Regent Square are popular now. Lawrenceville is a bit more rustic but is definitely on an upswing.

Their roads are fricked up though. It's the most confusing city I've ever driven in.
The area would, IMO, respond well to an expanded public transit network similar to Chicago or DC. Their roads are terrible, and the people aren’t as against riding the train as they are in the south.

Pittsburgh and Columbus are two major rust belt cities that diversified their economy and are the two best major cities in the rust belt. Far better than Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, etc.
At this point, most of Columbus’s history was framed by higher education, research, and state government. It escaped most of the “boom, then bust” rust belt problems that Cleveland or Pittsburgh had.
I think the higher education aspect of Pittsburgh is why it’s been able to reinvent itself. Not sure if that will ever happen in Detroit or Cleveland.

It’d help with the locals if you spelled the city correctly

Pittsburgh in the 80's was a great place to grow up and it's nice to visit when I go back for xmas. Lots of bars. Lots of hipsters now too if you are into the craft beer thing.
It's like a poor man's square version of PDX.
Not sure if I'd want to live there, the winters suck. CenFla >>> WesternPA as an adult.

Hoagies FTW. And PNC park is legit.
Still order my steaks “Pittsburgh Rare”. Hilly and as mentioned cold AF in the winter but a fun town.

Stay away from real estate around Frick Park. The park name devalues the property values.

Western Pennsylvania is a nice place to live. Great people, easy driving distance to a lot of other big cities, Great Lakes during the summer, relatively easy to get to snow skiing in the winter, three major sports teams.

Pittsburg is a really cool city. Underrated. But I have no idea where you should live.
