Lots going on with some great neighborhoods and bars
Let’s try to be a bit more accurate with your positives.

Why?
It's better than most of the cities in this region.

Area around PNC Park was cool. Also was around Southside area (Southside Flats looking at Google Maps?) and there were some fun bars there, not sure if I would like to live there. Downtown has been nice and fairly clean (ie not overrun with bums) when I’ve been there.
I’ve also been down in Canonsburg and it’s nice but way out from the city Not sure how old you are/what you are looking for. I’ve never been there more than like 3 or 4 consecutive days at a time so my experience is fairly limited. I’m sure there’s people on here who have actually lived there
It’s definitely not some rust belt dump though. It’s seemed like a pretty vibrant city every time I’ve been

I wouldn't be stressed about moving to Pittsburgh. It's a cool city. If OP has kids just find the best suburb and move there. If he hates the cold he may be in for a little bit of a surprise. It gets cold af in Pittsburgh.

I guess it also depends where he’s coming from.

Boston was fricking brutal driving around. Even the Uber’s got lost

Where he’s coming from
I’m over living in “downtowns” and more interested in quiet/relaxing “suburban life”... so if anyone knows some of the better suburbs (low crime, good schools, etc.) ...but still not a crazy commute into downtown business district

Or which areas to definitely NOT look into?
How many “h”s are in Pittsburgh?

Ah, well you'll be fine. My experience spending a few month in Pittsburgh was a positive one. It's a little more Midwestern feeling than Philly. The people are nice and the city has plenty to do. You can also be in the middle of nowhere in 45 minutes.
I wish I could be more help on the suburb recommendations but our corporate apartment and the place I worked were both downtown.
Seemed like a decent place to raise a family though.

How many f’s are there in “duck you, you ducking maggot”?
If you think I actually misspelled the topic city because I’m just a big ads hole, you are a huge stick in who’s never posted from a phone.
But thanks for bringin’ it OT

I’ll be getting a realtor, but I haven’t even gotten to that point yet. Just doing the preliminaries.

Do it if you can. I lived there for a year for work. Loved that city.

Seems to me that Pittsburgh is 6 hours from everywhere ( NYC, DC, etc).

Lived in Pittsburgh while in anesthesia school. My wife And I really enjoyed it, made some great friends. We both finished school and probably would have stayed if not for family. Lived in the north hills area, great area, with great access to everything. I think you'll love the area, tons of things to do throughout the year. They have by far the best ever bar food bars I've ever been around. Jump at the opportunity, dont think you'll regret it.

So “North Hills” is an area/neighborhood?

Butler County is cheaper to live in than Allegheny County.
