That’s a solid take. The issue is that we got lucky that omicron wasn’t as virulent as past variants. Luck being the key word, as it may not hold with the next variant.

Isn't more contagious and less severe the natural progression of all pandemics?

Everyone that I know that is positive is vaxxed.

Just an observation in my small world.
I'm sure you're hyperbolizing, but could it be partly that those who aren't vaccinated are also unlikely to test? Hmmmmm.

About half of my patients in the hospital incidentally have Covid (asymptomatic, has nothing to do with why they’re in the hospital, and we tested them JUST because they were being admitted). It has generally remained about that during omnicron wave. So I’d say that 40% number is roughly accurate, if not a bit low, based on my experience.

We are now seeing a rapidly increasing number of hospitalized patients(vaccinated) who present for issues OTHER than Covid, but who incidentally swab positive on admission, but are asymptomatic.

To the point that our hospital has opened up a wing on another unit specifically for these asymptomatic Covid patients, as they are not appropriate for our acute Covid unit.

Very similar for me. I caught omicron on MLK. I had fevers all night, night sweats and chills. It took me a few days to kick it, then I lost taste and smell for three days. I did a vinegar, lemon, and garlic taste routine I found online to jolt it all back and it worked. I still have a lingering cough. No shots for me.

That damn lingering cough. I caught mine the week before MLK. I was only out of work for two days. Never lost my sense of taste or smell. The only thing I could stand to eat was Spaghetti-O's of all things.

From my understanding, it isn't "luck", its a natural progression of the covid virus. The next strains are mathematically predictable, but research is being corrupted by politics and money. Evidence of this is all the studies, which are proving very accurate, coming out of Israel, which for whatever reasons are strictly scientific.

They’re in a nursing home and vaxxed and boosted and tested twice weekly. Some are reinfections

Some are employees some are residents.

Also you have to take into account how many people probably had it but didn't immediately run to the doc for their testing/FB status/I HAVE COVID LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEE!!!/moment.

I can't believe it but consider me part of the Bill Mahar crowd:

"I don't want to live in your paranoid world anymore. Your masked, paranoid world," he told his audience. "You know you go out, it's silly now. You know, you have to have your mask, you have to have a card, you have to have a booster."

Maher added, "They scan your head like you're a cashier and I'm a bunch of bananas. I'm not bananas — you are."

How is this accurate when Omicron has 120% more cases per day? I think you are WAY off on this statistic since your statistic would only be valid if case cases were the same.

I know we like to say Omicron was less severe than Delta but I think it is important to actually see it in the numbers.

One important note, the Delta wave isn't over yet. Most of the current hospitalizations in this Omicron wave are actually delta variants.

hasnt it been proven that this is how these things usually progress? more viral but less dangerous

Hospitalizations
Delta Peak - 3000
Omicron Peak - 2300 (25% less than Delta though there is a common thought that as much as 40% may be with Covid and not necessarily for Covid)

Vents
Delta Peak - 480
Omicron Current - 180 (63% decrease from Delta)
*not confident to say peak yet bc haven’t seen decline yet but with the other indicators declining this seems likely to start decline soon.

I would also note that there was/is Delta still going around in Louisiana, and a lot of these numbers for hospitalizations and vents for Omicron can probably be attributed to Delta

New variant is BA.2. (Omicron is BA.1).
Not too different than omicron. 26 new mutations to the spike protein.

Anecdotally, it's only the unvaccinated posters here telling their stories about family members being on deaths door...

And anecdotally 99% of the patients on our acute Covid unit(the one with negative pressure rooms, and patients on heated high flow O2 and Bipap) are…unvaccinated.

The other 1% are vaccinated, but are immuno-compromised e.g. kidney transplant on anti-rejection therapy, or patients with Myelodysplastic syndromes, etc.

I would prefer people get vaccinated, but I wholly respect ones’ right to choose, and will care for you the same as a vaccinated patient.

Again, I can’t wait for the oral anti-viral pill cocktails to hit the market in the next couple months, then we should see an 80% decline in hospitalizations.

Then there will hopefully be an end to this Covid bullshite and the dirty opportunistic political advantage-taking by the Democrats who have in
my opinion used this pandemic to exact political revenge upon not just their conservative enemies, but upon the very liberties enshrined in the Constitution of our great Republic

No kidding. I am just getting over Omicron. It felt like a really bad sinus infection that just knocked me on my butt. Worst day was Monday. Spent all day in bed. Feeling much better, just get tired easily.

Oh, and vaccinated.

Interesting that you think people are gonna swarm to another useless "fix" propped up by big pharma.

Go to CVS and get these two items. Use the Afrin first, and only once a day and not more than 2 days in a row(it can cause rebound congestion) wait 5 minutes, then use the Alkalol. It’s like mouthwash for your sinuses. It will dissolve the mucous and it has anti-bacterial properties as well.
