I'm not minimizing any part of the damage in Houston but am I missing something.

The News says 30,000 homes damaged in Houston. From the footage they make it out to be worst storm in history.

But Katrina left many people homeless as more than 800,000 housing units were destroyed or damaged in the storm.

Same thing with evacuation centers. Seems like they have more donations and volunteers then evacuees.

No way it's that low and that is also only Houston. You are forgetting this storm hit 54 counties in Texas and more in Louisiana.

It will be the most costly financially when it's all said and done and Katrina cost $108 billion.

There's only like 1.7 million housing units in all of Louisiana. Not sure how many of the 800k are in LA vs MS but that does seem high.

Last year there were almost 150k houses damaged in a much less populated area. 30k in the Houston and surrounding areas is not much, proportionately.

Money wise Harvey will blow it out the water.

I highly doubt the death toll will surpass Katrina

This is wrong...

However... Katrina would have been just an average Hurricane had the levees not broke.......

Harvey is A totally different event... The rain is HISTORY making...... Nothing else comes close............

I just assumed with the population of Houston the damage to property and number of evacuees would be significantly more.

Displaced residents. The storm displaced more than a million people in the Gulf Coast region. Many people returned home within days, but up to 600,000 households were still displaced a month later. At their peak, hurricane evacuee shelters housed 273,000 people and, later, FEMA trailers housed at least 114,000 households.

People also don't realize how bad the 2016 Louisiana Flood was:

Their early estimate for structures that might have flooded in Ascension, Livingston and East Baton Rouge parishes alone was a shocking 127,273.

Not to the MS gulf coast. Katrina was hell on the areas east of Nola . Nola was only a problem because if the levees breaching and the fact people didn't evacuate when told to

Do you really believe this will be the final tally?

Come on.

I recall people in Tuscaloosa getting all worked up that the tornado that ripped apart the city in 2011 was only designated an EF4, and not an EF5.

What damn difference does it really matter? If you are majorly affected by a storm, regardless of its category, it is your personal category 5 or EF5.

I think that I read the 30k as total losses (i.e bulldozed). The flooded number will be way higher. We had 110k flooded homes in the '16 flood in South LA
