Any company? Are they going around, grabbing people's phone and going off and download that person's contacts on their phone into their system or something? Don't communicate like a caveman.

I haven't. They didn't have the cable for my phone so I would need to bring the cable from my house.

correct...This problem went away for most legit organizations 10 years ago. There was a time that you used your personal phone and simply submitted your bill on an expense report. Now, most just provide cell phone for business. Of course, there are ways to hide/erase/not backup info, if you are not trustworthy or don't feel secure.

A company phone I could understand. Your personal phone? Yeah, you aren't getting that from me. Who the hell would willingly hand over their personal phone to their company and say here have at it! Go download all my shite.
Tell them they can provide you with a company phone if they want to the information off of it.

I'm assuming they give a monthly allowance for your phone? If so, it's really not that unheard of for them to ask for that.

They don't give a monthly allowance, but I would agree if they did I wouldn't have a problem with them asking for information.

Then you need to move on as well. This seems like a slimy piece of shite company you're working. And I should know since I recently worked for one. They kept tabs on you at all times with the iPad and HR would call you if you are out of your territory or you have been in one place for too long.
The last straw was a mandatory training from 5:30-8:00 the day after the election. I was told by my boss that they also do this the day after the Super Bowl every year.
If you can manage it, interview and get out of their while you can, and if not, just quit and find something better.
