Good idea, IMO. Seems like cigarette smokers always take plenty of extra breaks that non smokers never do.

I see these posts all the time. What kind of jobs do you people work where all these smokers are taking smoke breaks on company time?

Where are you working that they aren't? I worked for an environmental consulting firm for 2.5 years, and we always had people that would take smoke breaks. And it wasn't a quick walk outside either. It was go down to the first floor, out the doors, and over to the side of the building where you were allowed to smoke by a tree and the dumpster.

Complete waste of time, and then you could smell it on them when they came back inside.

What he said.

We'd have to wait to start a meeting because of smokers and their breaks. You name it. It adds up with lost work time for them and others.

Great idea. My company will not even allow smokers to smoke outside the gate. They have to go across the street to the gas station. If I fill up at that gas station, there is always at least 3-4 company employees outside smoking with the bums (company is located in bad part of Arlington, TX)

Whenever I’m a bit late for work it always makes me feel better rolling in the parking lot by all the smokers who technically arrived on time but are just screwing off smoking. I still get to my desk before them.

My former company gave smokers 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the afternoon to smoke. A 100 minutes a week. Just unbelievable.

I’m not a fan of smoking, but I’m guessing most of us non-smokers are catching up in the time wasted at work category since the advent of smartphones.

Man you non smokers are the biggest frickinv whiners ever. First you bitch so much about smoking that companies are now forced to require that smokers walk 3 miles to the dumpster by the tree under the bridge next to the railroad tracks to smoke so you don’t have to smell it. Now you bitch about how long it takes them to get there and back. And his thread will be going strong today during work hours from people bitching about smokers slacking off at work while they themselves post on TD on company time.

As if smokers don't peruse the interwebs as much as non-smokers.

Smokers are the most inconsiderate group of people on the planet. FACT.

In a previous job, my boss was a chain smoker. He literally was out in the smoking area 45 minutes of every hour.

An hour long staff meeting would have 2 10 minute breaks for him to go smoke.

Because they go out of their way to gobas fat away as possible so you don’t have to smell their smoke while you post on TD at work?

In 20+ years in the military as a tanker, I can tell you that it can be beneficial to smoke. When in the motor pool, all the smokers would go down to the smoke shack every hour, hence the term "smokin and jokin". I didn't smoke but I dipped on and off but when it was hot as hell and I needed a break, I would bum a cigarette from a buddy just to chill for a minute.

Taking a dump at work is the best. You're getting paid to take a dump. It's awesome. However, I can understand some people have phobias or problems going in a public restroom. So if that is your deal, I understand.

when i quit smoking it was literally like working nearly 3 hours more a day when i no longer had those smoke breaks.

How many of those hours are spent fricking around on this site now?

The only reason why they're forced to is because they'd congregate by the door forcing everyone to smell and breathe their smoke in. And jokes on you, I'm at home.

I wish my company would do that, since you can't smoke on any company owned property the smokers leave the site several times a day and waste a lot of time.

Absolutely.

While in high school, I worked at a restaurant and got fired for eating a quick dinner in the back, while it was slow. however the smokers were allowed to have a cigarette even while it was busy, two were even smoking while I was eating. bunch of bullshite.

It's a vicious cycle I tell ya! Several decades worth of workaholic here, but i feel zero guilt perusing TD during work hours at my current place of employment because my company doesn't have anyone with enough power balls to tell the pack of 10 smokers that smoking 3+ hours a day is not kool.
