JACKSON, MS (WLBT)

quote:

Pictures of the Forest Hill High School halftime band performance during their game against Brookhaven High School are going viral on social media.

Many are saying the performance depicted students dressed as doctors and nurses holding SWAT team members at gunpoint.

Two Brookhaven police officers were killed in the line of duty responding to a shots fired call last week.

One of the Facebook posts has been shared over 900 times.

Many left comments saying they were shocked and outraged by the performance

quote:

Charges should be pressed on them for bringing guns to a school event! There have been children expelled for bringing fake guns on school property! Such poor taste!

quote:

How was this allowed to even happen? Sick and crazy people. They should all be expelled & who ever is over them Principles & Teachers should be fired. This is uncalled for.

I try not to underestimate some people's stupidity but this shocked me this morning.

They either somehow thought this would be some kind of tribute that would go over well or they intentionally wanted to piss people off over a recent local cop shooting. I don't see any other options.

According to Reddit, that's their standard halftime show. It comes from the movie John Q.

Basically, nobody stopped to think about the optics of doing it in Brookhaven.

A third option emerges.

How are fake guns allowed at a high school band performance each week? That doesn't seem possible nowadays but maybe it is.

I’ve got to think Little Caesars isn’t too happy with those photos.

One might think that this "skit" has been in the works for a while --- you know, like practice and shitz.

Just goes to show you the quality of character and judgment that the band director has --- and just how impressionable these children truly are. Their old enough to think on their own in many instances, but too stupid enough to raise their hand as say, "uh, this might be a bad idea." Starts at the home, because it sure as shite doesn't start in the Jackson public school system.

Is this explanation supposed to help? A halftime performance from the movie John Q?

Hell you can’t even draw pictures with guns in them. Even if it’s a drawing of a soldier. My kid learned the hard way.
When I was in school I had pictures of my WW2 guns to show off to my buddies. Probably a felony now.

It’s Jackson, MS, what do you expect. This will be considered okay to the liberal standards of that city. Truly sad.

A lot of people are taking it as a Stanford Band type mockery of the police officers being killed. That would be orders of magnitude worse.
