Nothing.

Never did that.

Why aren't you asking why Broke deserves to have his account associated with another account that isn't his,

What? Why would anyone question this?

He doesn't HAVE to do anything. He chose to resolve it a certain way. It may actually work, but may cause a pain in the arse for a completely innocent individual. You can at least admit that it's possible that the customer had nothing to do with the issue at hand.

You said:

Accessing her account and changing the email address himself is a clear violation of the state's computer tampering law.

It's the same principle behind your questioning why Lovana deserves the trouble coming her way. Do you need me to explain further?

He doesn't HAVE to do anything.
But he does. It is NOT acceptable to have an account of yours associated with someone else's account. You can't just ignore that these days.

He chose to resolve it a certain way.
He chose to report the issue to Comcast, which is completely reasonable and should be enough.

Well, sorry. She needs to be compensated for her trouble by Comcast. So should Broke, but that ain't happening so he is getting his compensation via this thread, it seems.

You can at least admit that it's possible that the customer had nothing to do with the issue at hand.
I've already stated that without doubt she is at fault for not keeping her accounts in order. shite happens to all of us, and in the end it's our own responsibility to make sure things are right. She didn't do this.

Comcast is the absolute worst. I hate hatred the burns with the power of 1,000 suns for Comcast. Those frickers still owe me money for returned equipment. They said they would send it but haven't.

Maybe this is just semantics, but I never "suggested" that he do something. I simply said that he can

quote:

do something, which is not more egregious than what he's already done.

How? It's not a serious question and is silly to assume that people think that Broke deserved to have his email associated with another account. We don't know all the facts on how this all came to be, so it is a legitimate question to ask why Lovana deserves all this trouble.

You are correct, but it's not like his only choice was to go ruin another person's account in hopes that Comcast will do something about it. It's been established that their customer support isn't that bright. What if they just fix everything and leave his email address assigned to the account?

quote:

I've already stated that without doubt she is at fault for not keeping her accounts in order.

I was more referring to the original cause of the issue.

I agree with you somewhat, but I would cut some slack for people, especially older folks, who don't use email for their cable service, and would cut them some slack.

Sick burn baw, but that is far from accurate.

Alright, I'm done with this thread. I'm not sure how it turned into this...

She may not necessarily deserve it through her own actions, but when an issue has to cause trouble for someone, it should go to the account owner instead of a 3rd party non-customer. In that respect, Lovana deserves the trouble. I would even argue that she needs the trouble, if only so that Comcast will have yet another pissed off customer. Their poor customer service is the root of the problem, and they should suffer the consequences in the form of unhappy customers and potential former customers. Functioning capitalist markets demand it.

You are correct
That's typical.

it's not like his only choice was to go ruin another person's account in hopes that Comcast will do something about it.
What were his other choices? Your only alternate suggestion.. no wait, I'm sorry, it wasn't a "suggestion", but anyway.. was that he commit a crime and fix the account info. I mean, he reported the problem 5 times, what else should he have to do?
quote:

It's been established that their customer support isn't that bright.
They may or may not be bright, but it doesn't help that their reps apparently aren't allowed to escalate issues. This is a problem with Comcast as a company.
quote:

What if they just fix everything and leave his email address assigned to the account?
Then they will probably have to fix it all again and again until they change the address.

I agree with you somewhat, but I would cut some slack for people, especially older folks, who don't use email for their cable service, and would cut them some slack.
So you can assume Lavona is old and doesn't use email specifically for her cable service, even though she obviously uses email for Amazon and other things, so she needs to be cut some slack... but we can't assume that she had some motive for inputting the wrong email OR that she is just irresponsible for not keeping her accounts accurate?

After 8 pages I was expecting things to have escalated to an Amazon shopping spree.

It seems like you have access to the rest of her presumably accurate info. Call her, tell her she's a moron and that you have control of her account, and tell her to get her shite together and change it to a correct address. Simple yet gratifying.

It's pretty simple. Spend 30 seconds to forward all mail from comcast to the spam folder and ignore. Done and done.

But of course you're right. Taking much more time to make another person's life more difficult is much more constructive. What the world needs more of is people screwin each other over.

I've already explained several times why this is NOT acceptable. Broke's email is associated with someone else's account! Who knows what Comcast will do with it? Do they sell emails to spammers? I doubt it, but they could. Do they reserve the right to sign customers up for other services using the default email? Will they sell off some accounts to another provider? If so, what will the new provider do with it? Can it be used as evidence? Probably.

Worst case, Comcast fricks something up that results in Broke's email account being locked, and then he loses access to many of his actual accounts.

So, you're right on one point: it's pretty simple. There is an obvious problem. Fix it, don't ignore it.

Like I said before, typical.

Wanna place bets on whether OP's actions result in a fix where his 5 phone calls did not? Something constructive will come of this.

Anyway, Lavona NEEDS to feel some pain over this. Both because of her personal inability to maintain her own accounts, and because as a customer she needs to be aware of Comcast's poor customer service. It's the way things should be. Broke is doing the world a favor.

All of this could easily have been avoided. How many sites make you verify your email when you sign up? Pretty much all of them. Comcast is too busy conglomerating to even do basic shite right.

When you make account changes, are you getting verification emails? If so, how are you answering those? Or do you?
