As I recall, that picture was taken after the war. The story goes.as I remember, Lee would not wear his uniform after hostilities ceased. Matthew Brady had to convince him to do the picture. Your conjecture while reasonable, may not be as you implied.

My brother and I took a Civil Battle field self tour in the mid 90's. We saw this spot and of all the things and areas we saw this one made the biggest impression. Bloody lane came in second to this one.

I am amazed at how far the colorization techniques have come. They are getting close to making the pics indistinguishable from a color pic. Nice post. Thanks.
