Looks like he could use a drink.

And I wonder what Lee's shoe size was.

Those guys were so small. I wonder how many of them it would take to weigh as much as an American woman in modern times.

Heh.

Well...you have to take into account that these guys didn't eat that much to begin with. It also must be noted that Confederates ate even less and yet could march 100 miles or more in a week during a major campaign.

These men were a different breed.

The were pioneers, settlers, farmers, blacksmiths, builders.

They carved this thing we call a country out of wilderness and tamed it.

Not to get too political, but these types of things are what some people want scrubbed from history. It happened, it sucked, let’s learn from our mistakes and get better.

Going 1930’s Germany on everything civil war is just stupid.

People forget that the waves of History sweep up mortal men in their paths, and their only choices are to swim as it crests or drown.

These boys and men didn’t have any real say in the machinations of cogs far above them.

They answered an age old call, like their progenitors had for generations immemorial.

Don’t hate a soldier for the sins of a senator

The most important trait this generation lacks is perspective and they have too much tunnel vision.

It comes from being spoon fed everything easily. They look at everything through the lenses of themselves and today.

That, and they don’t want to get dirty while they work.

Speaking of, look at the spit shine on Lee’s loafers!

Imagine the perspective shift if people today were thrust into that life. Hardscrabble, where starvation was a real threat. Where your sustenance had to be conjured from the land. Where nothing was easy or instant.

How dare they judge men of the past by modern mores.

He had someone to take care of such details.

And, in the interest of full disclosure, that person was not overpaid.
