Good. The big rigs that deliver and run the mountains its an insane job. Can only imagine what kind of trucks and rigs he gets delivering lumber for a small LLC.

And the runaway ramp is stupidly placed. How the hell are you going to put a runaway ram on a turn or bend on the mountain??? That's a DOT issue..I feel bad for that kid and those families, but there are more people at fault then him and he should not be shouldering that burden.

He working for a shite company on some of the worst terrain in US.

There is that word again. Have all adjectives vanished to be replaced by ‘insane’ and ‘crazy’?

And who is responsible for the condition of the trucks brakes?

Is anyone applauding this sane? He ended the lives of 4 people.

Eta: being from the area, he could have easily gone into a field rather than ramming a bunch of people who had no idea of what was coming.

I mean his brakes went out. Not sure how you can put all the blame on him for that.

You do realize they build those runway ramps for a reason.

You can have a brand new set of pads and destroy them in hours if you are hauling in the mountains and ride the brakes on all the down slope.

Just because they broke doesn’t imply negligence on maintenance.

And it’s a moot point. His charges are based on gross negligence. And the evidence for it was passing up on multiple ramps cleared of cars and deciding to keep on going.

Yeah he killed four people in a fiery crash. So he gets 2.5 years per person murdered.

He passed at least one run away truck ramp and also ignored the warning signs about his speed. Mostly due to his lack of being able to speak English. While 110 years was probably overkill (and due to mandatory sentencing laws) 10 years is bullshite.

I think the brakes went out on him when he was trying to brake as he was going down hill.

Meaning they were also out as he traveled for 2.5~3 miles on flat terrain, where he could have ditched the truck, relatively safely, along concrete barrier walls, medians, and two interchange rights-of-way. But hey, he eventually stopped, didn't he? What more could anyone ask for?

Exactly! frick this guy. 1,000s of trucks go down that same stretch everyday without incident. He chose the wrong options multiple times that resulted in people dying a horrible death.

A letter to the Denver Post from a victims wife:

quote:

Loved ones received a life sentence as well Two years ago, my husband was killed in a truck crash. The crash was no “accident” and entirely preventable. Lost in the national conversation around the driver’s sentence is any effort to understand the experience of the actual victims. I also received a life-sentence that day. Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos is not a victim, but a responsible party whose decisions caused avoidable deaths and injuries that fateful day. The unfortunate reality is that the other people and companies responsible for this crash have not been held accountable. Neither this driver nor his company should have been hired to perform any trucking work, especially given the company’s inexperience, lack of qualifications, and poor safety record.

For anyone supporting this guy not getting life, look at the terrain he could have easily run off into.

10 years is a fricking farce of justice. The guy had numerous chances to prevent this accident and he killed 4 and maimed many others.

frick this dude and all the idiots screaming about this sentence.

Dude needs to do 40 years minimum and should be banned for life from ever driving any vehicle again.

It's my understanding he burnt the brakes up miles before and knew it, but kept driving, even after being offered help in adjusting them. So then he topped this hill at max speed for his truck. Which was around 70. So he tries to downshift, and misses the gear, freewheeling up to 85 mph. Then instead of running off the road he tried to ride it out with the truck in neutral and zero brakes. Instead of driving into the median, which was clear, he plowed in to cars stopped for an accident. And then jumped out and ran after the crash.

POS deserves far more than 10 years.
If this is true then 40 yrs and get out at 30+ for good behavior seems more reasonable to me. 110 too much, 10 too little.

I got downvoted for saying this yesterday in this thread, but he should spend many years in jail for his negligence.

Good for Polis. Alongside Tulsi Gabbard probably the last sane Democrat, although he is actually a libertarian.

Yeah, I think 10 years is appropriate.
