Never knew I was color blind til I joined the army and had to take this stupid fricking test. I didn't believe them so I went and took it every year I was in. Never did pass.

Then you may not actually be color blind in the genetic sense. Optic nerve defects can definitely cause color vision deficits.

I remember doing these at the MEPS center in Montgomery,AL when I was being processed into the army.

It doesn't matter how thick your glasses are. Someone with better sight than you without the inch-thick glasses won't see the numbers if they are color blind.

One of our drivers is color blind. He has the tests memorized to pass the DOT physical. I ask him how he can discern traffic lights. He said he knows what shade of brown/gray is “red”, “yellow” etc.

I can’t see any of those numbers, even with the outline. I’ve known I was red/green color blind but it’s only when they are jumbled up like that. In real life, I have no problem telling colors apart so I don’t really understand the concept
