A search is underway for a clouded leopard that escaped from its habitat at the Dallas Zoo Friday morning, officials said.

“The Zoo is closed today due to a serious situation,” officials tweeted, adding staff and Dallas police were working to find the animal.

The zoo said that it is under a “Code Blue,” meaning a non-dangerous animal is out of its habitat.

"One of our clouded leopards was not in its habitat when the team arrived this morning and is unaccounted for at this time," zoo officials said in another tweet.

The clouded leopard, named Nova, came to the zoo in 2021 with sister Luna, NBC Dallas Fort-Worth reported. The feline likely escaped through a tear in the mesh enclosure Nova shares with Luna.

Officials believe the clouded leopard is likely on the zoo premises.

Maybe I've been mislead my entire life, but I've always assumed that a leopard would frick you up.

One of the zoo folks is pulling a “no didn’t” when it comes to the question about did you leave the gate open

A regular leopard is much more dangerous than a little, ole clouded leopard. Humans have probably always been on the menu for the true leopard.

Yep. Look at the teeth on it. There is no way it is non-dangerous.

They would. The jaguar @ Audubon Zoo got out a little while back and fricked up some other animals. This guy here is proably a bit smaller but still some good size teeth and claws. Hopefully it's still inside the confines of the zoo and not running around the streets. Clouded Leopards are great at staying concealed.

these ain't as big as regular Leopards, but I'm sure they could still do some damage.

The problem is I doubt they'd ever attack a human unless cornered/attacked. We're too big.

A clouded leopard weighs about 50 pounds. Regular leopard weighs 200 pounds.

This thing would no doubt frick you up, but not quite like a normal leopard.

The jaguar that escaped in New Orleans a few years back was way bigger than even a leopard.

The bigger concern would be if it managed to get outside of the confines of the zoo and a random person happened to walk up on it. Would it freak out and attack that person due to the fear, or are they more likely to run off?

And as I recall, it went on a straight up murder spree during the short time it was on the loose.

Don’t remember when the Audubon Zoo had a jaguar escape and it killed 6 of the zoo’s other animals?

I would think the possibility of it attacking other animals in the zoo is a pretty significant concern as well.
