Slideshow. Don't bother. Here are the highlights.
Launching. Notice the teenage girl internet abbreviation at the bottom. Someone knew. Someone knew.
>
First class ticket, costing $4,350. In 1912. Jack's ticket was $30, in case you were wondering - still a lot in 1912.
John Jacob Astor, teh wealthiest passenger, died. His wife and child survived.
Only 60 of the 421 crew members survived. All of the bellboys were killed.
Famous staircase.
“Well boys, do your best for the women and children, and look out for yourself.”
Not enough life boats, and it was hard to get onto the ones they had, what with The Unsinkable Molly Brown beating people over the head with paddles.
Picture often cited as being the iceberg, but is not in fact the iceberg.
The orchestral players.
Nobel Prize winner, and inventor of the radio, Guglielmo Marconi decided to travel on the Lusitania (the "safe" ship) instead of the Titanic.
Awaiting survivors
Elizabeth Gladys Millvina Dean (right), the Titanic’s youngest surviving passenger, died in 2009.
The ticket to take a private party down to the wreckage costs $59,000 per person. Anyone can take the plunge through a private company called Deep Ocean Expeditions.

14 years before the Titanic’s maiden voyage, author Morgan Robertson wrote a novel called The Wreck of the Titan: Or, Futility, which was about the largest ship in the world hitting an iceberg. The ship in the fictional story was called the Titan. Sound familiar?

I would've went in a canoe to cross the ocean with this dog.
If it wouldn't have hit that iceberg, the Titanic would have long been scrapped known only to ship enthusiast, but today it's beyond legend second only to the ark in fame.

Millionaire Benjamin Guggenheim refused an offer of a seat in a lifeboat. "No woman shall be denied a place because Ben Guggenheim was a coward. We've dressed in our best and are prepared to go down like gentlemen."

Probably not even them.
There was NOTHING really notable about the ship at this time scale. She wasn't even the lead ship of the class. Not even enthusiasts will be aware of the current premier Carnival liner 50 years from now.

The Titanic museum in pigeon forge is awesome

Fun Fact here. The actual staircase of the Titanic was never actually photographed after being built. An exact replica tho was built on her sister ship. All photos claiming to be of the Titanic are false.

it's pretty crazy to think that some of the richest people in the world would pay that much for a ticket and didn't have their own fancy boats that could cross the ocean

Well, anyone with $59k, anyway.

Pretty amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing (and doing the dirty work of not making us shuffle through ads and slides)

frick that noise. I'm a feminist. Broads are to be treated like men. They can get in line like everyone else. Modern day broads anyway.

Never understood why the survivors didn't just swim back to the iceberg, climb on and wait for help to arrive.
