Plus the fact that you’re soaking wet in that freezing water. People have no clue. Survivability in those conditions is measured in minutes.

Another fun fact: part of the old Harland and Wolff shipyard where Titanic was built in Belfast was converted into Titanic Studios - where some of Game of Thrones is filmed.

Eh.
That part of the idea isn't stupid.
It isn't ideal, but at the end of the day, water conducts heat a hell of a lot more than air. IF your only choices are to stay put in the water or get on the ice....Get on the fricking ice. Worst case you'll buy yourself a few minutes.

I don't believe the ticket price.
$30 is $750 in today's money.
But that would make a first class ticket $100,000.
No way.
A three month cruise now, first class is less than half that. I just can't see a crossing being that high.

Seems like they could have spent the time throwing everything that floated into the water. Seems like that would have saved a few more. But I know those waters are cold...

Also, consider the supply and demand issue.
Your cruise is merely for pleasure.
Ships like the Titanic represented the only way for an oceanic crossing, and there was a LOT of back and forth between Europe and the Americas. Also, cruise ships exploit economies of scale that technology has provided in that getting far larger ships than Titanic.
I don't know if its accurate, but I wouldn't discount it completely.
Compare for instance the cost of a plane fare, stretched out for a week instead of hours.

Not many things are loose, composed of a low density material to keep it above the water, and large enough to displace enough water for its weight and the weight of human riders. Merely floating wasn't the issue. They had plenty of life vests.
You need to get OUT of the water ASAP.

Almost forgot, my mom knows Bob Ballard. She went cave diving with him and a group and Bob saved her from drowning when her regulator got knocked out of her mouth.
Bob was allowed to be the Titanic discoverer in exchange for doing a little deep sea work for the CIA. It's no longer classified, so both parties have admitted it in the years since the discovery.
