For those of you traveling to Knoxville for the Tennessee game, here are something new for Market Square area:

quote:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The City of Knoxville has has launched a program to allow visitors to take beer, wine and alcohol purchased at select restaurants into Market Square.

In May, The City of Knoxville said the program will name Market Square as a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area this summer. The program officially began on Friday, July 24.

With that designation, businesses that complete an application process will be able to sell beer, wine and alcoholic beverages that can be taken outside into Market Square.

The local pro soccer team had a watch party there last month during the World Cup and there was well over 1,000 people there. I guess they got a permit that day because there was a lot of outdoor drinking going on in the square.

Pretty cool area of downtown Knox.

They've managed to keep the bums out of it for the most part.

Having lived in Louisiana my entire life, it blows my mind that most places outside of LA don't allow you to walk around outside with a drink in your hand.

Market Square and downtown Knoxville in general is very nice. My goodness, if you have a "sweet tooth" go to the Phoenix Pharmacy around the corner on Gay Street.

I have been to a few games in Knoxville and have never been hassled about an open container anywhere appropriate. If you don’t act like an a-hole, they don’t bother you.

Came here to say exactly this.

You don’t realize how lame everywhere else is until that very moment.
