I saw an episode of Intervention once about this young guy that was a raging alcoholic. He ended up in the hospital at one point and was such a fricking lush that he was drinking from the hand sanitizer dispenser hanging on the wall in his hospital room.

Ciders are ok. I much prefer good beer, but it's hard to beat an ice cold cider if you have been out working in the hot sun.

I have Celiac, so the fact that it is gluten free means I drink it. I don't care for most of the gluten free beers out there and I can only drink so much vodka.

The problem with most ciders in America is that because of various importation laws, we don't get the good ones that can get you really drunk. In England, Strongbow traditionally has a higher alcohol content than the Strongbow in the States. And additionally, in Cornwall, there is a cider called Rattler that even the rest of the UK makes them dilute before they sell it because it is so strong. If you get it in Cornwall, 4 pints in and you'll be really drunk without even tasting the alcohol. Cider in the US is nothing like Cider overseas.

This 100%. You can get really drunk on cider in the UK. It's not considered feminine at all. In the US you have watered down bullshite that tastes terrible.

I've had both
the alcohol type and non alcohol cider
been a while since drinking the alcohol type
I regularly drink the non alcohol type....mix my dry greens in there for energy and alone is quite tasty. no heartburn like with apple juice

I like it with Guinness on occasion but never alone. I will agree that most of the good ones are not carried at most bars.

Agreed. I had some a couple of weeks ago in Normandy. I ordered a liter expecting it to be weak, it wasn't it was 12%, so I had to down it in about an hour to catch my train. Had a nice nap to Paris.

Isn't the process to make hard cider very lengthy? I thought I heard it took like 10 years so what we're seeing now actually started a decade ago.

They're trying to capture more of the male market.
That's why all the ads have lumberjacks and similar ilk, and position it as "hard" cider and so forth. This tends to work on millennials and hipsters.

We have a cider brew pub in Dallas now.... Bishop Cider. I have been pleasantly surprised with the quality of their stuff. They have quiet a variety of ciders....
Here are the ones i've tried. The OC Funk was really good.
Cideways - The scent alone has been known to make lightweights walk sideways. Heavily hopped with enough alcohol to sedate a Clydesdale, Cideways apple cider is a feisty American classic. ABV: 9.5
OC Funk - A straight apple cider that is high in acidity. Tart. A little scrumpy. ABV 9
Oaks of Wrath - This cider means business. A filtered, dry cider aged on oak, Oaks of Wrath is as classically American as John Steinbeck himself. Its heart is pure, its ABV is high, and its wrath is sweet. Just don’t get on its bad side. ABV 9.5
