Church in Florida to pay off 6,500 Floridians’ medical debt......7.2 million dollars

In the coming weeks, some 6,500 people in five Central Florida counties will get a letter in the mail telling them the crippling medical debt they owe has been paid off, no strings attached.
It’s not a scam. It’s an act of faith worth $7.2 million to the struggling families.
“It’s one thing for us to say, ‘God loves you,’” said senior pastor Dan Glenn of Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand, whose congregation donated enough to buy off the medical debt for low-income residents in Volusia, Lake, Putnam, Marion and Flagler counties. “It’s another for us to show that.”

If this church can do this, why do mega churches refuse to engage in stuff like this?

More churches need to do this, especially those mega churches with jet setting pastors.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.
Give 6500 people 7.2 million dollars and they can buy a lot of cigarettes.

What a bunch of clowns. Everyone knows the path to heaven is paved with donations towards fake preachers' private jets...

I know if you pay at least a little every month, they can’t say shite. But one question I have is that will your medical debts carry on to your children?

Will they get prosecuted by the IRS for not issuing a 1099 for each individual recipient? And will those poor bastards be on the hook for taxes, penalties, and interest by the time it all washes out in 6 years?

This is what places of worship need to do.
Good for them

They aren't giving them the money.

what do those satanic churches that put up devil statues to poWn christians and exploit the super edgy separation of church of state angle do in the way of charity? anything?

The reaction in this thread is much different than the Smith kids food truck for the homeless. Hmmm

No your children would not be responsible.
Your estate would be, and the courts can force sale of just about everything (except any home where a surviving spouse has the right to live if applicable), but if there isn't enough in the estate, then the remainder has to be written off.

Many, many do, but they don't get the press.

That's pretty fricking cool.

Couldn’t this be resolved by selling the home to a family member in preparation of death so that’s not part of the estate ? Feel like I’ve heard that a lot.

Because OP framed it as a crackhead making crazy decisions and most of the OT can't think for themselves.

I would bet that those upcoming letters will be accompanied by 1099's

I believe it has to be done 3 or 5 years prior to death and nobody knows when they are going to die. If it is within that timeframe, I believe it is included in the estate. I’m not positive though.
